    I. Introduction

    Cherry Bomb is the third EP by NCT 127, a sub-unit of NCT. It was released on June 14, 2017. The lead single “Cherry Bomb” was released as the title track.


    II. Background and Release

    On May 25, SM announced NCT 127's June comeback, then released teasers beginning on June 5 and confirmed the EP's release. Teasers were released from June 7 to 14.


    The EP features 7 tracks with two versions of the lead single "Cherry Bomb." "Cherry Bomb" was deemed "unfit for broadcast" by KBS, due to mentions of violence, gory descriptions in their lyrics and the group did not perform the song on Music Bank but did on other Korean music programs with b-side "0 Mile". As part of the promotions, they also performed in their first showcase since debut and launched a new season of the ongoing NCT Life series, NCT Life in Osaka.

    Cherry Bomb’s pre-orders reached 101,444 copies, exceeding 127’s previous EPs NCT #127 and Limitless. It debuted at #2 on the Korean Gaon Album Chart in the month of June 2017 with 105,877 physical copies sold, as well as on the Billboard’s US World Albums chart. It also debuted at #21 on Billboard’s top Heatseekers Albums, and #18 on the Oricon Albums chart.


    Fuse TV described the title track, "Cherry Bomb" as edgy and explosive and the group’s most sophisticated track so far. The song was also chosen by Billboard and Idolator as one of the best K-pop songs of 2017. "Cherry Bomb" reached #47 on Gaon and #3 on US World Songs chart.
