I very much dislike the big 3/4 kind of solipsism that goes on around here.
You won't find a better champion that prefers non big labels then me. I find the big label groups to be amongst some of the least creative, least talented, and least interesting groups around. There are some exceptions of course.Part of the reason I fell for Mamamoo and have become a MooMoo for life was partially because they had to be creative and carve out a unique space for themselves to grow their fandom, gain more commercial success and solidify themselves in the industry. I'll make a separate thread about their amazing careers later, but my point is that your perspective on groups from smaller companies is a familiar territory for me.
It's the same reason I'm a low-key fan of Dreamcatcher.
They are undoubtedly the top 3. There is a certain group that can insert themselves into the top 3, but that depends heavily on future events.
Also we've butted heads about this before.
I very strongly dislike Minors in Kpop. Newjeans not only debuted as mostly minors but marketed very much directly to that, which I find very distasteful.
I can't deny the impact they've had, or their success, or MHJ's creative vision compared to some other "creative" leads, but nonetheless big fucking miss for me on a group that traded so heavily on their age or youth as they did. Just personal reasons.
We have, but I'm not going to debate you for having a rigid disposition on groups with minors.
I just don't think it's unique to NewJeans, and has been standard in K-Pop for as long as the industry has existed.

Don't really care about the rest.
In no particular order -
Finkl
SNSD
Twice
People that were trail blazers in certain ways, that changed the game utterly, that had to be bold or do something outside the standard at the time.
I think just being a popular group of the day doesn't cut it. I think iconic means they have to be looked back as some of kind of marker of a certain innovation that hitherto hadn't happened. I will also freely admit I will lean towards groups that pushed back against kind of the male dominated space. The Brown Eyed Girls, the Mamamoo of the world. Only reason I don't list EXID is im sure if they're iconic enough, though they're pretty close on the list.
T-ara/Kara are the only ones without a real legacy, but i think listing them maybe together or as one kind of demarcates that period of time in kpop, that was iconic, as kind of an umbrella listing for the groups of that period (which extends into groups like AoA etc).
Strong list, though I would expect at least a honorable mention for NewJeans based strictly on your criteria of being a harbinger of change and bringing an innovative and novel approach to the genre that changed the game and trailblazed.
Glad to see you, and surprisingly many others, haven't engaged in Mamamoo erasure either. People tend to just go Twice/BP/RV and write off how massively popular over a long period of time Mamamoo was

Not even trying to be biased, but if the CEO doesn't take care of their artists on a baseline level like MHJ, which is pretty much non-existent in the industry, my kids would never be allowed to pursue this dream. Not until trainees gain more protection through legislation.

Between this and our Pelvic Thrusting King from a month ago, no wonder girls run the world in today's K-Pop ecosystem.

Bye kms
Like I can't even force myself to get mad at this user when I know they were in literal diapers when I first got into K-Pop

Meh they're okay.
Their vocals are mid.
Dance is basically organized freestyle.
Nothing really unique about them.
I wish they would've debuted without HYEIN (because she was 14 at the time).
They only have two good songs: Right Now (the JP version) and Hype Boy.
But I shouldn't really be talking cuz I stan groups for weird reasons.

I’ll include the 2nd Gen G’s based only on how much of their achievements reached me
Not really in order as I don’t think you can compare GG’s from different eras
2nd Gen
SNSD, 2ne1, Sistar, Wonder girls
3rd Gen
Twice, Blackpink
4th Gen
New Jeans, Aespa, (IVE, Gidle?)
Tbh it’s hard to name 10 groups because 4th Gen is still on going and there is a bias.the other gens have faded even tho some had hits they might have faded towards the end of it. So maybe MMM or Gfriend or FX deserve it more than the 4th Gen groups. But I never hear about these group compared to SNSD or BP/Twice so i don’t feel like including them in the list either.
Like do people just type anything these days
Like I understand having subjective opinions about art and music but out right making up lies is indeed funny.
They were 6 when BLACKPINK debuted, so I'm just giving them a pass.

To those wondering why I would put NewJeans on an all-time list, despite their youth, I'll keep it short and sweet.
What they've accomplished from the literal second they debuted until today, in just over two years, is already more than what 99% of girl groups accomplish in their entire careers. They have the ultimate combination of generation-defining impact and record-breaking numbers, and there isn't a single girl group record where you won't find a NewJeans entry somewhere outside of touring. The story of K-Pop could not be told without them. They don't have longevity, but their peak value is so high that it negates that for me. From second generation to whatever generation you think we're in now, I haven't seen a group be this loved since peak SNSD.

Not a huge difference, maybe something like this. NJ have not been active enough many years to put them in the list, I would like to see them at least 4 years with the same kind of succes as they have had their first years.
1. SNSD
3. Twice
4. 2NE1
6. Wonder Girls
7. KARA
8. T-ara
9. Red Velvet
10. Sistar
This is mostly my list except you removed my favs.
We will never be close friends.
A worthy group was going to be left off my list no matter who I chose. Gidle has a strong argument for the top 10.

how do I become a Girl Group expert, is there some sort of certification I can get?
Submit your application to the Girl Group Council run by yours truly
As YHS said himself BP is a replacement of 2NE1 so I can’t just place them that high, if not for their chart achievements I wouldn’t include them to the list! Cuz 1st they have very short discography, 2nd they didn’t have any impact to the industry music wise or concept wise, also individual members of bp aren’t iconic idols themselves! So I placed them at 6 for helping to expand kpop and for their chart achievements
No I only know several 1st gen boy groups and only 1 gg which is S.E.S., but 1st gen ggs have no significant impact except S.E.S. compared to boygroups of 1st gen! I guess BoA took all the impact for female counterparts
Wow. And people used to think I was the de facto BP anti around here. Another bold take.
Not sure if you mean the group I think is the best or the group that have had the most impact/status.
The latter.
