There are things to criticize MHJ about like any other person, because she can make mistakes and do/say stupid things. I don’t think she deserves the amount of hatred she’s been receiving.
There’s a few points that a few people have already mentioned:
1. Sexism
If she were a guy I don’t even think this whole Hybe vs Ador thing would have happened. Corporate is not a place of equality for females even if higher ups want to pretend they are at face value. Even worse if you have something you want to advocate for because then they’ll see you as being dramatic and not a team player. If it were a guy, they’ll think you were brave and took initiative for speaking up. Also, this is Korea, known for being misogynistic.
2. Empathy/Lack of similar life experiences
I guess it’s a good thing that some of you have never experienced working in a toxic work environment or even a corporate/office setting because it’s stressful and soul sucking. A lot of the Koreans that watched her 1st press con and changed their opinions have likely experienced them though. That’s because it’s not rare occurances, MHJ situation was extreme in the way they ruthlessly tried to gaslight and character assassinate her in public.
Yes, their relationship is not business professional, the girls have mentioned MHJ as their mentor. She is not the first or last CEO to be close to her staff/employees/mentees. It’s not hard to imagine how they built a close relationship when MHJ is so hands on and have gone through adversity together. Someone needs to be really disconnected from people to not care when working that closely to the same people for that long.
Thinking about killing yourself and having a plan to kill yourself are different things. It’s common for people to have passive suicidal ideation (thinking about killing oneself). She had a very legitimate reason for thinking about it briefly but from what I’ve seen and read, she never had a plan of actually going through with it or leveraging with it. Leveraging would be if she said if the NJ members didn’t support her, she would kill herself. Leveraging is not the same as finding strength in knowing that people were reaching out to her and showing they care about her. I don’t think it’s strange that with the history of suicides in Korean society, that people thought that she would kill herself and would want to make sure she was okay. I find it very thoughtful and touching when people reach out (even seeing it on here with kynsom checking on Rand) as I have my own regrets for not checking with those specific questions with people I’ve known.
3. Haters gon hate
No amount of reasoning is going to change someone’s mind if they’re set on hating someone. It doesn’t even need to be a good reason. Like I have an initial irrational dislike of Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt because I don’t like their faces lol. I think I just get annoyed when people keep bringing up hate for MHJ to derail a conversation.
