NewJeans is easily the third biggest group in K-Pop, and if they win big over the next coming months, the only group that will rank ahead of them is BTS.
Touring numbers are an indication of a healthy and loyal fandom and NOT overall popularity.
There are NewJeans advertisements, from the world's biggest brands, spread all over the globe. Their recent Calvin Klein ambassadorship generated 3 million in value in just 2 days. The largest noodle brand in the world just announced them as ambassadors. Apple let the creatives behind NewJeans make alterations to the Apple logo.
Korea just this year already chose NewJeans as a top 3 girl group EVER in a recent Gallup Survey. And last year, NewJeans swept nearly every daesang at every relevant award show.
And I haven't even mentioned their numbers.
If Stray Kids retired today, their impact on K-Pop would be minimal and only fans would remember their songs
NewJeans could retire today and their legacy and impact would loom large over the entire industry.
They're not even in the same class.
Are we going to boast on advertisments for a group that was given their first collabs before they released music? Stray kids is not the group you want to bash on that. Extremely extremely bad strategy on your part.

If you're irrelevant in Korea, as a KOREAN POP GROUP, that is a huge ding to your overall popularity
I'm not asking SK to get PAKs; I'm just asking them to at least reach the basement of the charts, but they can't even do that.
Funny you're discussing misogyny because men are a huge catalyst here. They make 50/60% of the Korean market for girl groups and guess what they don't listen to boy groups because of misogyny.
Men are also fickle and probably not worth the investment. They dump girl groups when they get "stale" and who wants a fandom like that.

No but they have big fandom. They aren't popular with muggles. I literally don't know any of their songs, never heard their songs in public and socmed (my feed doesn't show me kpop things, so only the popular ones used by muggles showed).
Newjeans are way more popular. You don't need to be a kpop stan to know their songs. Their songs are often played in our national tv, but never straykids
Where are you'll living where people can recognise any kpop idol? People can't even tell who BTS is here and I live in Asia.
The only kpop kids I knew have moved onto Taylor swift because kpop is uncool now.

They're an interesting case because they're not popular in areas where kpop is usually popular (Korea, SEA) but they're doing really well in other places.

I think only Boynextdoor sings live on music shows
Funnily enough JYP groups don't lipsync quite as much despite not being known for their vocals at all.

Kpop is not mainstream enough to compete with western artists but they bring viewing numbers and online engagement for the award shows. This is the best compromise.

It's a nice song and much better then xo but the vocal processing is the first thing I noticed when I heard the song. Very jarring. I wish they chose another method of processing for their songs

They took a public flight to jeju and filmed their variety content during 2023 mama instead of attending so that was the biggest indication they were never going to attend again.
I honestly don't believe they would've gotten the big prize. They've been snubbed a couple of times and it was inevitable they would just not be interested anymore. Their biggest snub was for 2020 mama where they got 0 nominations for God's menu. It was the biggest song for the 4th gen boys so that was really crazy.

I think producing their own songs has been a huge blessing for them. They can set the tone of their music and have as much output as their want.
They're associated with noise music but they have all genres of music since the individual members can release whatever, whenever so a Stray kids fan doesn't need to listen to other groups when they want to cry to a ballad.
Eight may seem like a lot of members but their lineup has been very efficient. They have their extremely popular visuals whose job is to attract new stans. They have great rappers who aren't just rapping because they can't sing. They also have their singers when they want to go melodic. They even have one of the biggest ships in kpop which is surprisingly not made up of their most popular members.
Also they produce a lot of content. A lot. Some days it's new music, new magazine cover, new interview, new fashion show all in one day. It's very hectic but it keeps the group constantly in people's timelines.
