I should have phrased myself better to avoid confusion, I didn't mean SM (as company) destroyed YG, rather that SM did much better job long term and now both companies are not on the same field. The time also proved SM business model to be the one that works the best. So SM won in the end.

JYP stans were not company stans because there was not JYP stans to start. Even 2PM was selling half of what boygroups in mid tier companies were selling. Twice was the first group in JYP to have a sizeable fandom, so before Twice they were not at the same playing field as SM or YG, the company was just much smaller to a point I never even understood why they were part of Big3, in my mind there was only a Big2 with JYP being closer to Cube or FNC than SM/YG :skull:

Yes, pretty much agree. JYP was considered part of the big 3 because of its age, being a company that was big in the 1st gen kinda just carried over even though their 2nd gen stuff was a bit more middling.

Only other thing I would say is I think JYP kept in the normie-public conscience for a long time better than most companies. People like Rain (I know he left JYP but I think the association remained), Sunmi, Suzi, 15& etc were pretty famous to average non-idol stans. I think stuff like kinda adds to why JYP remained in people's minds as big 3, and also helped boost its market capital, which has generally been Big 3 competitive, despite its actual revenue being lower.

You don't see much beef between YG and SM stans because with time SM pretty much obliterated YG

lmao this isn't true and you know it. SM had no part in YG's problems, their problem was that they basically stopped promoting their groups, moving away from an idol-based company to an artist-based company and it took a while to get going because they lost a lot of idol-stan types.

SM stans do not like JYP because JYP was always "SM without pedigree", and they were absolutely right with this claim.

Also disagree the only comparison you could MAYBE make would be classic 2PM eras to SM but imo that's more just because boygroups tend to have more generic/samey concepts across companies. But pretty much every other artist has a very non-SM vibe tbh.

Tbh unlike SM and YG, JYP fans have rarely been "company stans". Imo this is more to do with how JYP has marketed itself for the last decade (ie having a lot of varied acts that don't have much similarity or interaction with each other, YG has also somewhat gone this way but more in that they don't market anyone lmfao). SM on the other hand has clung to the old school company vibe for a long time. The hate on JYP from SM stans during the Twice era was basically just bitterness.

They used to just hate each other all day long back when JYP was definitely the 3rd of the big three and only really had Suzi to its name for a while toward the end of 2nd gen. I guess once Twice won the 3rd gen ggs they turned their attention toward a new big rival?

I love your profile pic! You can probably tell why :joy: :)

I see that you just joined. If you enjoy this kind of stuff you will probably like this thread series. Most of it is groups much less well-known than 9muses, so you'll always find something new. The previous entry is great if you like things slightly more risqué Hidden Gems #418: Phone Number by Tahiti

There's a taglist to be notified of new entries if that interests you

lmao I miss gsd's beagle behaviour with each other so much ;(

Yeah I always love discovering hidden gems tbh! I never stanned Tahiti back in the day but I had a a general knowledge of their music. If you like Phone Number you might like Love Sick, rather than AOA the song has more of a classic T-ara sound imo, but it's my favourite of their songs.
