This topic has been recycled too many times in too many variations so let me say it AGAIN . . . BTS will get a military enlistment EXEMPTION. You can pull your hair out until you get bald spots or hold your breath until your face turns blue or go off the deep end. Military Enlistment Exemption is on its way. There. I called it.

How can that be? Only the fandom knows those nugus. That's gotta be fake news.

Nah, their fanbase is more likely to be non-football-watching women.

BTS & Hybe are not dumb enough for not doing the military enlistment. No matter how much ARMY thinks that korean gp will not be as mad towards BTS it will still kill their career. Not a single person that are healthy & not contributing to the country outside their personal benefit (athlete winning medal for national team in olympics & asian games are contributing their talent outside their normal job) will survive backlash from military exemption.
No need to bring BTS impact to korean economy. It was all theory & calculation. Also there are various other example (actor, singer, director, etc.) that bring similar economic & cultural impact for korea since 1980s that are not getting military exemption (exemption for athlete already made since 1980s).
It is just politician doing politics. in the end BTS won't get the exemption.
Wow, I didn't know that you have such a deep concern for South Korea's general public as well as BTS's future career. How could I have even thought that you were just an ass? Woe is me!

After being conferred the Order of Cultural Merit and appointed Presidential Envoys, brace yourselves. Military enlistment exemption announcement is coming before Jin's birthday in December.

To me, GP is like a middle aged office worker or the guy that delivers your delicious jjajangmyun to your house. Rando members of the public. They know who BTS is because of the news articles, media promotions, the President endorsing them, etc. They may or may not recognize everyone or know all their names. They are neutral on their music, if they like the song they'll listen, if they dont, they move on.
Casual fans are folks who are fans of a group, who know their title songs, who will almost always tune in to new releases, and who will buy the occasional download or even an album or two that they really like. They wont stay with a song they dont like though.
Hardcore fans are those who follow the group extensively, have most of the albums, download and stream every new song for awhile, buy as much merch as they can afford, attend every concert in their city, etc.
Extreme hardcore fans are those who buy multiple copies of albums, have every album in the discography, download every song and zombie stream songs they might even hate, fly 10000 miles to see them in concert, buy every merch, etc.
Ok. I get your definitions . You have to agree that even your faves have the hardcore and extreme hardcore followers. So what's your answer regarding role reversal? Are you going to downplay all your fave's gazillion fans efforts? I'm waiting.

Thanks for the advice. I'm learning quite quickly. I'll get with the program real soon.

It's easy if you have a giant fanbase that buys MILLIONS of records in Korea. And with ULs trending down on Melon, this fanbase has an even greater impact. We're seeing it now with Butter, it made little GP impact but it's cult favorite among fans.
If BTS fanbase, including hardcore and casual stans, loves the song, they will stream it for years like Spring Day which barely peaked at #1.
So the fanbase is why BTS can chart their fan favorites at #50 for years since you only need like 120k fans on Melon to do it, but it also explains why they dont have much longevity at the top like other GP hits since you need fans and GP to continue supporting it like NL or even LSG (22 weeks in top 10 on Melon).
When does a GP stop being a GP? If I was a casual listener who suddenly became interested in BTS after a few listen, do I suddenly stop being categorized as a GP?
If the situation is completely reversed and your ultimate fave has that gazillion fans and someone come up to you and tell you that GP support matters more, what are you going to say? Are you going to admit that your fave's fanbase has made little impact because it does not have the GP support?

the amount of hate that group will get
and the amount of ''RiGgEd''
Isn't that the price of success. BTS was hated long before they were successful but they still pursued. They were ridiculed when they were nobodies and were despised so much when they were slowly inching away from the pack. The hate even tripled when they reached the top.
Whoever this new group will be, in the future, will experience the same thing but being successful against all odds will be sweeter. At least, this is just my humble opinion.

I have a couple of honest questions as I'm very new to Kpop. Please enlighten me. When BTS, during circa 2013-2015, was considered a "nugu group" and ridiculed for not getting any Daesang, was there any talk or discussions like these about exempting other popular groups from award shows because they were regularly getting most of the Daesangs?
My other question is: If a "nugu group" then was able to push its way up despite other bigger fandoms, negative media and other things thrown their way, what would stop the current groups from trying to achieve the same thing?
