Obviously military is not mandatory when people are getting preferential treatment, that was my point-- so my argument made perfect sense.
"... national pride (to) Korea" ... National pride for whom!? Not to all the buggers who couldn't give a rat's ass about K-pop and this abstract prestige that it garners. I would be well pissed off if other people are getting exempt because of their social status or them being rich while I have to schlep my ass here and there for registration.

The point is that BTS did a lot for Korea's economy and soft power. They are getting a preferencial treatment, whether other groups should have it too is debatable, but I don't think anyone can say that they don't deserve it.
Deserve preferential treatment? By what arbitration? Who exactly are benefitting from the economic up-keep-- the powers-that-be, the ones controlling the arbitration process? How is that fair? It's about dollars, private interests, and therein corruption.
