what is aespa
Aespa is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group consists of four members: Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. They debuted on November 17, 2020 with the single, "Black Mamba".
The group's name, Aespa, combines the English initials of "avatar" and "experience" (Avatar X Experience) with the English word "aspect", meaning "two sides", to symbolize the idea of "meeting another self and experiencing the new world"

the feels charted #84 on billiboard hot 100 i think #12 may be global 200 or some other chart

Alright I have my English Final tomorrow so I'm just going to rely to everyone at once and leave. I don't think ANY group are leading 4th gen right now. Right now Aespa has the first viral hit among any 4th gen groups so their stats reflect that. Once another group (male or female) has a viral hit their stats will reflect that. No group right now has any super impressive records that would deem them the 4th gen leaders. A group needs to be stable both internationally and domestically. A lot of people mentioned the Global 200. NiziU also did amazing on the Global 200 but most of their success came from Japan. It's possible that Aespa's entry was a result of it's popularity in SK. I think the US billboard chart is a good indication of a groups impact on the Western market. In terms of GG both Itzy and Twice did better for the billboard 200 and no group apart from BTS and BP made it to the Billboard 100. I never stated that BG are doing well internationally or some BS. I stated that right now there is no group that is leading crap in 4th gen. I don't think Aespa is, I don't think TXT is, I don't think Itzy is, etc. You can look at any of my previous posts and you can see I stated that it is too early to say leading 4th gen.
Twice also charted on biliboard 100 and also uk too

I agree, I think it will be hard for any kpop girl group to be as popular in the west as boy groups are, the fan bases are different. In Korea it seems like frequently young girls are the most loyal fans of boy groups, and boys are the most loyal fans of girl groups. Not that you don't find the reverse, but it seems to be a lot of people who both enjoy the music and also have a crush on the members. That's why they freak out when they find out about idols dating.
In the west it's different, I've never had any straight male friends who were big fans of bubblegum, true pop music. Not saying it doesn't exist, but the main market is women and gay men. Young teen girls in the west will be extremely loyal fans to boy groups like BTS and 1D, and kpop groups survive on loyal fandoms who buy every record and all the merch even when a particular release isn't a huge mainstream hit. When western girls do stan a female singer, it's typically because they aspire to be more like the dominant, aggressive artist (think Rihanna, Megan thee Stallion, etc). This type of persona doesn't do quite as well for female idols in Korea, so it's tough for girl groups to balance appealing to both markets. Blackpink is managing to walk that tightrope pretty well so far.
doesn't in third gen most of the groups popular in west are girl groups

everyone is gangsta until bp comeback

When it comes to BP, it's debatable. YG is the best at wasting potential (Ikon, Treasure, Winner), but with BP I think they did a pretty good job. Yes, they don't release music that often, but when they do, it explodes. The girls have great careers as soloists/actresses and will survive even if BP will disband, which is the best thing that could happen to a member of a girlgroup. YG gets a lot of money from their CFs, which is more than enough to let them do what they want.
As a group, yeah, it could improve, but to be honest, no one wants to stay in the shade of a group, I'm pretty sure the girls prefer to be active and popular as individuals, so YG helped them a lot in this direction.
i still think 24 songs in their 5 year carrier is tragic for what atleast yg can do is increase their b sides when they release bp albums which is least cost effective but yg doesn't do that too
-
if you look at the overall demography of blackpink you can see how much yg wasted blackpink potential as a group. blackpink generate 2 billion streams in spotify and 5 billion streams in youtube without any comeback they are also have 6.5 B streams in spotify for only 24 songs in their hituas between comebacks.
they also dominate both youtube and apple music from female artists side
unlike many girl groups bp B-sides are doing great even compared to most of the boy groups but bp have only eleven b sides in thier 5 year carrier yg is incomptent to release more music for bp. i also think yg doesn't have strategy for bp. they unexpected popularity is not excepted by yg. it really shows yg doesn't what do with them
