That is not well though out excuse. They double counted MOTS7 songs. You just have to count streams for that particular week not all time.
The existence of this list by chartmasters is totally stupid. Because they are discarding all the songs that did not debut in Spotify weekly chart which means they are actually not counting total filtered streams.
Excuse? I'm explaining what happened cause I have followed that site for many years. Pls reach out to them to call them out, to me and many others it is still useful enough despite you calling it "stupid"

Yes, this is just the way chartmasters has always done things. If some chart account outside of them wants to add compilations that's their call I guess, I personally also think it doesn't make sense but whatever

Chartmasters have never used "anthologies" or whatever for the list of bigger debuts since it's essentially a greatest hits, majority of the songs aren't actually debuting on the charts.
They also didn't add the weeknd "highlights" to list of most streamed album cause it would be double count, just like "proof"

The 2 year hiatus may have mortally wounded the fandom that buys these albums. People still listen to the songs it's clear as day given the Spotify and YT numbers, but that hardcore fandom energy could be lost forever.
But the true reason is even deeper than this.
Father Time.
Every dog has its day, every king has their reign, but at some point, they are fighting something you can never win against.

Even if they had promoted like crazy after The Album, even if they got comeback after comeback, all this would have done is push back the beginning of the end by a year or two at most.
And ultimately, we still don't know if it was Teddy or YGE that destroyed them or if it was the girls decision to pursue other things like acting, modeling, solos, etc. We'll know everything when we hear about contract extension talks. I think the girls will all renew but with the understanding that they will move on and prioritize individual projects.
