Bop.
It’s a grower, and I’m still trying to digest it but I really like it for what is. Do I find myself putting it on for the sake of putting it on? Currently not really but that might change.
I do have a few issues with the song though. One would be the lack of memorability. Normally with TWICE titles there’s an easy part to sing along to and I know it’s supposed to be the post-chorus hook but so far with Talk That Talk it’s been hard to connect with for me. It just doesn’t have that same charm/borderline irritability (in a good way) as Boy I Boy I Boy I Know and Pop Pop Pop Pop Uh.
Second would be the vocals. The loud voices of Jihyo and Nayeon were just a little too shouty for my liking but not bad. I feel like Jihyo should’ve gotten the bridge high note as well and they switched choruses with Jeongyeon having her own full chorus.
One thing I found really nice however was the very clear improvement in the sub vocalists! Namely Tzuyu and Dahyun! Now Tzuyu’s always been good and continuously improving but she’s finally had a chance to showcase her talents on a title track. Her vibrato in the pre-chorus was so good. Dahyun also sounded really crisp and dynamic here which I really liked because her voice sounds so pleasant!
The M/V was very cute but a bit lacking? It just felt a little messy and not cohesive? I wish they had stuck to the retro game concept more and they had more solo glamour shots/individual scenes just like the old days but seeing how the M/Vs have gone since Alcohol-Free, it seems we won’t be getting that anymore. I also wish we got more of that Y2K dancing scene with Nayeon, Momo and Chaeyoung but with the other members.
The song is endearing and has huge potential which is why I’m giving it a BOP right now, and I hope it’ll continue to grow on me!

honestly wasn’t feeling the snippet at first (same thing happened with pop!) but it’s sort of grown on me with the video teaser accompanying it. really love the retro y2k game concept they’re going for and i’m excited to see the whole m/v and listen to the album!

NAYEON HISTORYMAKER IN THE USA

I loved the song on first listen but it somehow was able to grow even more with listens. The chorus is so strong and the pre-chorus is heaven to my ears. I also really love the countdown part of the song it’s amazing. The hook is already stuck in my head as expected.
The M/V has to be the best part! They really finally went all out for a TWICE music video budget and I’m happy they could give it for Nayeon’s solo debut. All the outfits and scenes were so beautiful. I wish the best success for Nayeon’s solo!
