I think its a mix of things but the main blame is with Hybe and Bang. The coachella and just general singing thing, their response to it, lots of claims of them trend hopping not forming their own sound (at least in TT's), fans buying less due to the recession, multi's being more selective were bad but if they'd stayed silent, stayed away for a while and came back with a more vocal focused song they would have been fine, problem is Hybe is Hybe.

Bang had multiple scandals this year, and since he is heavily involved with them, as more has come out about the management in charge of them, people have become more uncomfortable with their concept and supporting them. Especially since Hybe initially tried to use them as a weapon against MHJ over the source mess, then came the news of source stealing newjeans deal for LSF and then came the income statements where we saw how much more profitable newjeans was despite not going on a tour like LSF. All of this whilst they were getting lashed for their singing skills, responses to it and later source editing their live singing in a video. They got compared alot and the skill difference really hurt them. Whilst she is now disliked by korean feminists, the initial comparison would have been 'newjeans made by a woman for women vs LSF made by men for women but really being for men' and at that point, the difference in treatment by Hybe despite the income (including Bang ignoring newjeans, not remembering their faces compared to taking pics with LSF and his personal messages to MHJ) made things worse. Then MHJ said newjeans almost didn't debut because of Hybes interference and wanting sakura to debut ASAP (which only made the mess worse since her singing is the worst in the group currently and people hated her response the most) and the woman being mistreated by a male dominated workplace angle seemed to have made alot of korean women leave the fandom.

Then KOL got popular right when they were at their lowest and being hidden. They got praised for their skills and not only are KOL all of age but they have chosen to go with a more sexy concept (even giving ideas for some of the more racy scenes) which drew in western female fans and drew a starker comparison. Fact is they lost alot of their female korean and western fans, and apparently, this was pretty clear from their concerts.

"I think the lower album sales for Le Sserafim's latest comeback are due to a mix of factors, but the main blame lies with Hybe and Bang Si-hyuk. Their handling of the Coachella performance and the criticism of the group’s live singing, along with accusations of trend-hopping instead of developing a unique sound (at least in their title tracks), have hurt their reputation. Additionally, some fans are buying less due to the recession, and multi-fans are being more selective. If Hybe had stayed quiet, taken a break, and returned with a song that focused more on vocals, they might have been fine. But Hybe is Hybe.

Bang Si-hyuk faced multiple scandals this year, and because he is closely involved with Le Sserafim, more people have become uncomfortable with supporting them. The situation worsened when Hybe initially tried to use Le Sserafim against Min Hee-jin (MHJ) in the "Source Music" mess. Then, news emerged that Source Music had stolen NewJeans’ deal for Le Sserafim, followed by income statements showing that NewJeans were much more profitable, even without going on tour like Le Sserafim. During all this, Le Sserafim faced backlash for their singing skills, their responses to criticism, and Source Music’s editing of their live singing in videos.

Le Sserafim was constantly compared to NewJeans, and the difference in skill really hurt them. Initially, the comparison was framed as "NewJeans made by a woman for women vs. Le Sserafim made by men for women, but actually for men." This narrative, combined with how Hybe treated the two groups differently despite their respective incomes (e.g., Bang Si-hyuk ignoring NewJeans, not remembering their faces, but taking pictures with Le Sserafim and sending personal messages to MHJ), made things worse. When MHJ said NewJeans almost didn't debut because Hybe wanted Sakura to debut as soon as possible (and since her singing is currently the worst in the group, people disliked her response the most), it further fueled the perception that a woman was mistreated in a male-dominated workplace, causing many Korean women to leave the fandom.

Then, KOL (a different group) gained popularity right when Le Sserafim was at their lowest and not in the public eye. KOL got praised for their skills, and since all their members are adults, and they adopted a more mature, sexy concept (even contributing ideas for racier scenes), they attracted Western female fans and drew a sharp contrast with Le Sserafim. As a result, Le Sserafim lost a lot of their female fans, both Korean and Western."

Fearnots are expecting 300k sales on Monday due to shipping delays and delayed Hanteo reporting. They got 26k instead. Predicting it will be under 400k for the 1st week.

I think Korean culture is really rooted with "resentment", "grudge" and "sorrow". I have been reading this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_(cultural) and it says:

Han is derived from the Chinese character , which means resentment, hatred, or regret.

Definitions and characteristics of han are highly subjective. According to the Translation Journal, "Han is frequently translated as sorrow, spite, rancor, regret, resentment or grief, among many other attempts to explain a concept that has no English equivalent."[

    • Kim Yol-kyu defined han as "the collective trauma and the memories of sufferings imposed upon [the Korean people] in the name of oppression over the course of the nation's five thousand-odd years of history".[5] Kim said that the meaning of han is ambiguous.[6] Kim Yol-kyu provided examples of stories, poems, and songs in which some form of han is depicted.[6]
    • The minjung theologian Suh Nam-dong described han as "a feeling of unresolved resentment against injustices suffered, a sense of helplessness because of the overwhelming odds against one, a feeling of acute pain in one's guts and bowels, making the whole body writhe and squirm, and an obstinate urge to take revenge and to right the wrong—all these combined".[7]
    • Jon Huer describes han as a generational feeling of "having been 'wronged' by a superior agent", such as fate or the government; he says that the accumulated han in Korea is enormous because of a long history of suffering from invasion, poverty, and international indifference.[8]

    Psychology of Korean Han
Sooner or later, most foreigners learn something about ``han," the peculiar cultural product that explains much of ``Korean-ness," especially as the source of…

Generally speaking, han (or won-han) is the idea that some injustice has been done to oneself. The injustice could be inflicted on the Korean people by a foreign power, on employees by their employer, on citizens by their government, on a daughter-in-law by her mother-in-law, on a wife by her husband, on a poor person by his rich neighbor ― anything that is perpetrated on a person or a group that is permanently imprinted as injustice or unfairness.

Virtually all of Korea's institutions and persons are under the powerful influence of han. Virtually all of Koreans have a deep-seated sense of grief and grievance that they have been wronged by some very powerful agents of injustice.

I mentioned this, because this mentality of being victimized is so predominant in Korean culture and I think that's the reason why "Eunsoo" cannot move on. She felt that she was wronged by Garam in the past, and seeing that she's now debuted in a large company, felt so wrong for her. I think that's why many Koreans do this witchhunt online, for them an "aggressor" whether your a minor, or Japanese government (Japan occupation of Korea), or anything that hurt them, should be punished .
