Mingi’s effect on otherwise rational grown women needs to be studied for science.

I would happily date anyone from BTS - I mean, even if they’re not your bias, you’d do it just for science, no!?… but, actually, just before I read this thread, Ateez just dropped their seasons greetings teaser photos, which included one Song Mingi posing with a bass guitar, which is a specific weak spot I was not expecting to be jabbed in so early in the morning… so I truly feel that I cannot be held accountable for my baser reactions right now
… or blurting out while husbandface was beside me ´Oh my god, I would climb him like a tree.’ -

Hey, I've been there with the dreaded Christmas music in retail, so I know what you mean. It ruined Christmas music for me for quite some time.
I hope you're still able to enjoy the holiday spirit to some extent!
If the holiday spirit means a bottle of gin, maybe!
To be fair, this year, the powers that be took pity on us - we’ve only had two weeks of it so far. Last year they started on October 18th.

I get it - controversy drives traffic, but man, people just arguing the whole time about who‘s more toxic, and company politics is wearily depressing when it’s the only thing you see.
I got into Kpop because it was a joyous breath of fresh air for me, not because I thought ‘Woo! Wouldn’t it be great to analyse in detail how corrupt some massive corporations are!’
But I’ve never been a big enough user to make any threads that people want to engage with. The last thread I made to hopefully discuss the Ateez comeback (which I happened to think was glorious btw) had about three people reply. I know they’re not as big a group or a fandom that are as represented here but in the past, people might have still checked out the release to comment etc. They won’t do they most of the time now.

I really can’t pick a vote on this. Their comeback has the potential to be absolutely massive.
Internationally, I can’t see them slowing unless they want to.
That’s the thing know - I have no crystal ball to know how much they want to or will have been changed by military service, or how much they’re fed up by Hybe or anything else, or how much they want to explore individual creativity and freedom.
They will come back together, and it will be huge… but Korean music fans seem like they can be pretty changeable, so I don’t think I can predict whether they’ll turn against them because of Yoongi, or buy into the hype and ‘forget’ everything.

I think everyone has said what I would say, so I am just heartily nodding and agreeing. They have spectacular presence and charisma and performance ability. At Hyde Park earlier this year, I was right off to the side, jammed in with tens of thousands of people and I was worried beforehand that I might not get that much out of it not being at the front and basically only being able to see the big screens. Their energy just bounced off stage to every corner of that park.

Oh she’s smashing it. It’s a really solid ballad and she really seems like she’s stepping into her real vocals and self.

They are all trash who are only out for their selves and their own egos. The artists under them are the only ones who should be considered without blame.
-
Absolutely, they are artists. They perform, therefore they are artists. It doesn’t matter if, case-by-case, someone might argue that some of them aren’t involved ‘enough’ in the creative process etc, they are still working as performing artists. People can go to town arguing that some people are at a higher level than others if they want, but they’re still all in the same job….

counterpoint - but that's the life they choose
if you want to remain in the spotlight and continue the kpop grind that's what one has to do (especially in the first contract period no?)
I mean I've said it before but a kpop idol is the ultimate gig worker - their income is totally dependent on how much money they bring in and if they work less they earn less income
are some idols overworked - of course
but are some idols "underworked" - probably more than those overworking
This is sadly true, and why you see so many idols saying how grateful they are to their fans while obviously being entirely burned out by competing demands. I think all idols are aware, at least in concept of the demands that will be made of them - particularly if they are successful,
That absolutely does not mean that some, or a lot of fans are not too entitled.
To me, there seems to be a certain aspect of the whole thing that is a toxic cycle.

You still can. They won't be going anywhere.
I am standing back and observing from a safe difference!
I worded that wrongly though - I simply meant their trajectory has changed from original plans. I would have been interested to see how they developed without all the myriad fuck-ups and drama which could/should have been avoided.
Still interested to see what happens, and hope things work out for the best.

Their debut was great - really tapped into nostalgic feelings for me and so I played it a lot. They were/are super young so I have no real interest in learning about them to any deep level. I have liked a couple of songs since, but I have no heard anything much that caught my attention like their debut did. I would have been interested to see how they developed.

God, yes. It is embarrassing to see so many fans act in this way. Enjoy what you get and let the poor buggers breathe.
