of course, that's the inevitable result of greater financial resources of kpop companies (and better financial incentive) and an oversaturated market

I think people are more excited about the members, especially Wonyoung, than the song itself

THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE SONGS
This is always it. Yes other factors affect success/popularity, but groups can have controversies or be lacking in some area and still be successful if they have hit songs, but the opposite is not true, if a group has outstanding members but no hit songs they will not succeed.

I wouldn't dislike a group for lacking success however for some groups I like the members so I want them to be rewarded for their hardwork and also continue to put out songs, so I do care about success to a degree because without success my faves would just disband

EXID is one of the most underrated gems in Kpop, despite hitting big people view them a certain way because they got famous from a sexy fancam and tend to lump them in with the trend of 2nd gen ggs that exploited sex appeal, but they were really so talented with a diverse discography
also Night Rather Than Day is a chill bop!

It looks cute, I hope she does well

Natural teeth are best 99% of the time (unless your real teeth are seriously f#cked up) fake teeth look uncanny valley most of the time

It sounds like SM is trying to trademark a new sound and make it the trend like Aespa Savage or NCT Resonance, I bet soon all SM artists songs will sound like this, and knowing the Kpop industry they will follow and soon enough 100 rookies will be debuting with crappy imitation songs.
I will admit however Step Back has an earworm quality like Savage or other recent SM songs that makes you come back to it despite it being "noise music", but I still wish it doesn't become the trend.

lol when she was waiting for the chorus to dance but then the song changed, chae is so cute

Yes, for a little while her popularity slumped because of the long hiatus between I.O.I and solo debut, and when Birthday and What You Waiting For flopped, people thought she was over and had "used up her image" but Dumb Dumb and XOXO proved everyone wrong by being major successes and Somi gaining attention and praise for her "high teen" visuals

- Looks (some find this shallow, but if I'm gonna have to look at you often your face can't make me wanna gouge my eyes out)
- Pure intentions (my biggest fear in a relationship someone dating me just for sex or some other superficial reason)
- Similar political views (they don't have to be the same as me, just not, ya'know, a bigot)
- Humor
- Relatability

you can blame the company... you can blame controversy... you can blame anti-foreing/ant-japanese sentiment, but other idols who've faced these things have managed to be popular despite.... honestly she just wan't meant to be popular.
not to put this girl down but frankly speaking she lacks the skills of an idol (not her fault, she barely got to train before debut) and doesn't excel at any particular skill, and her visual doesn't stand out. SM should've trained her longer, they dropped their standards debuting her like that

I've given up the whole "YG Family" thing, not to be rude to the other groups but for me personally BP is the only act in YG I care to see (except AKMU).... I want BP to be allowed more interactions with anyone, in YG or not, YG has gotten softer with some of the restrictions, but remember Lisa being censored from her friends' vlogs??

STAYC is a hard group to tell when they are singing live because as a SWITH I personally think some of their "lives" are prerecorded whereas others are 100% live, but STAYC's live vocals are so good it's hard to tell them apart lol
-
I don't expect idols to sing live EVERY performance or even MOST performances because they would damage their voices and some songs with hard choreos are impossible to sing live, however a group should not be active for over a year without us getting to hear their live singing NOT ONCE, not even during a ballad without dancing. that is ridiculous.
and what's more insulting is the company and fans and idols themselves trying to convince us that they do singing live when they clearly dont, it's an insult to our intelligence
some people say it's always been this way, and while yes kpop has always had a lot of lip sync and vocal manipulation, in recent years it has gotten undeniably worse, during the 2nd gen every music show had live singing, now only KBS has live singing the rest are all lip sync
