what if another group comes along and breaks everyone's records? BTS is that group right now but the next big kpop group might come along in the year 2050 .

I have to go with HOT. Even Shinhwa said they never quite matched HOT's peak

Well I like to give the credit to SM's pioneers tbh
H.O.T was the first SM group to have a successful concert in China (it was in Beijing I believe, correct me if I'm wrong), I think this was SM's first time getting their foot into China's market
BoA is the reason why SM was able to have success in the Japanese market after she broke down the wall (prior to BoA's Japanese album SK and JPN didn't engage in each other's entertainment industries since WW II)
And DBSK had success in Japan too but also helped SM expand into the SEA market
Half of the kpop community has never heard of H.O.T but yeah, I guess it's true.

EXO. Exo have the most successful albums physically and digitally both with in Korea and outside out of any SM group. Also not only their group but their subunits solos and non musical activities. You’d have to be pretty biased to take any name other than EXO when you talk about the MOST successful SM group.
I feel like EXO being the youngest top tier group factors into this. If they debuted in 2005 or something then they would rank higher.

People say the money is overseas but I also see people congratulating groups for getting korean validation. I'm a little confused and need to know what matters more.
