Why does Apple keep making iPhones every year?

  • Last year was the release of the iPhone 15 and its variants (15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max)

This year it's expected to be iPhone 16 and its variants (16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max)

Why doesn't Apple make iPhones less frequently?

  • Apple has too much money that it could start making iPhones less frequently, just look at PlayStation and Xbox.

New PlayStation and Xbox models are released years later from now instead of annually.

Because upgrading game consoles effects the game makers heavily and most arent going accept redeveloping and re-releasing the same game every year. And consumers who have to buy them outright won't accept $600+ a year on a new console with minimal upgrades.

Phone carriers break up the cost of a new phone into a monthly bill. And (because capitalism) getting the new iPhone is somewhat of a social event, despite the phones barely even changing.

In short: it's low work, people are willing to buy and money is money

Upgrading gaming consoles take time just like phones. No one can make a gaming console or a phone in less than 24 hours.

I didn't say it didn't. In fact it takes more time for a console because they have to justify making consumers spend more money on their products by offering significant improvements between models.

Phone makers don't have that burden and can get away with selling virtually the same phone with minor upgrades every year. It does not take nearly as long to develop a new phone because they're barely making an changes between models

Because they keep recycling iPhones from trade-ins, so it's easier to mass-produce phones each year lol. That's why the "new" models always look the same
