It was Seulgi who was most interested in Jungkook when he and Yeri started hanging out in the same crowds again-- even so more than Yeri. I sometimes think that shame, mere awkward, senseless shame, did as much towards preventing Seulgi from getting to know Jungkook better as any of her irreverence can do. That is true to life. Part of every misery is, so to speak, the misery's shadow or reflection: the fact that you don't merely suffer but have to keep on thinking about the fact that you suffer.
She had avoided Yeri for a week when she learned that Yeri and Jungkook started hanging out again. When Seulgi saw him making conversation with Yeri again, she tried to avoid them. She hated when they did. When she saw them, she would turn very red, and then edge away to the bar or some dimly-lit place as she decently can. Perhaps the bereaved ought to be isolated in special settlements like lepers. To her it was worse than an embarrassment. She was a death's head. Whenever she saw them she felt them both thinking, 'One or other of us must some day be as she is now.'
At first she was very afraid of going to places where Jungkook and Yeri had been happy-- their favorite sushi restaurant, their favorite park. But she decided to do it at once-- like sending a pilot up again as soon as possible after he's had a crash-- she came up to Jungkook and asked how he was doing and how was the next album starting to shape up. Unexpectedly, it made no difference to her reservations about him accepting her as more than a friend of a friend.
