Both Hybe and Edam are dependent on one single act

  • Bang Sihyuk, who is the owner of Hybe Entertainment, and Lee Jieun, who has been revealed as the owner of Edam Entertainment (the shares 'held' by her manager is hers by proxy), have a common point ; the companies they own are dependent upon one single act.

Hybe's entire portal business is largely dependent upon BTS. Other acts Hybe own do not really bring enough revenues to sustain its business model.

Hybe will stand or fall with BTS, whether some people like it or not.

Edam's entire business model is entirely dependent upon IU. The other entertainment figure Edam controls, Shin Sekyung, runs her own show which the owner of Edam cannot interfere.

Both the owner of Hybe and the owner of Edam would be thinking about diversifying their portfolio.

IN that case, Edam has the advantage since in Edam's case the owner is the chief singer of the company as well, so she can control her schedules to control her company's revenue. Plus, Edam did not have a worldwide ambition so its staff is all in Korea, and easier to control by the owner who has seen them for yeras.

Hybe has expanded a lot, but its expansion has not reduced its dependence upon BTS, which the Korean younger male population is very hell bent to send to the military.

The owner of Edam Entertainment only has to answer to Kakao, which owns 40% of her company, while the owner of Hybe has a lot of peoples to answer to, since a lot of investment funds have bought shares of Hybe.

  • edam is not that surprising, it's basically a one-man agency (many top actors set up similar agencies for themselves). I'll be more curious if edam starts accepting trainees and debut idols or actors of their own.
