Why did Exo get shelved while Red Velvet did not

And don't just say military enlistment or controversies when SM stopped giving af about Exo in 2017, years before any enlistments or Chen's marriage/Chanyeol's controversy

most companies don't shelf BOYgroups if they are still doing insane & acceptable (by their company's standards) numbers. with nct growing, they probably saw more future in them

They were getting bigger than the company themselves so they had to stop that

they wanted to make room for nct and their 3689469039067994579 units, sadly the latter combined can never touch exo's legacy or discography. Also exo really suffered with all the c-members leaving and sm mistreating some of them.

NCT is more profitable than Exo and currently trendy so they're the defacto BG in SM.

Plus you said it didn't count but army duty certainly did affect them. In the time Exo was away new bgs came like seventeen, treasure, ateez etc came and took but shares of the BG market. And ofc BTS left Exo in the dust.

It's no surprise that SM moved on.

EXO is one of the most exciting groups to look for in kpop for all the things, good and bad, they have been through, but success stans will never give them a chance. Their loss.

Plus Red Velvet has no member in other commitment, so why not promoting them?
