Has anyone watched Inventing Anna?

  • If so, what your thoughts about her?

I wasn’t expecting it to be a true to life story. I don’t really feel sorry for her. Yes, she deserves to be in jail. That kind of goes without saying. Granted, most of her crimes were “victimless” since they were committed against institutions with insurance against crimes like this. But some of her crimes affected individuals and all of her crimes were unethical. I’ll answer this based on real-life and not the Netflix series, of course.

  • I hated it as the show bc what it wanted to say and what it showed were completely different

The show wanted to portray Anna as someone smart enough to dope people but what it really showed was someone who went full on Karen anytime someone asked her to pay up.

Watching that show and the one with Tinder Swindler, Im convinced people ignore super sketchy and abusive behaviors if they think its comes from a rich person. Thats just sad for the society. Imagine thinking its ok to take on abuse bc the other side said they are rich....

The show made her look like a smart and hardworking woman, and that the only thing that she was missing to become her dream was money. Which isn’t true. She’s a common scammer, all the money would gone would have gone to her lifestyle not that business.

I personally did not get that vibe

I got the vibe that other people tend to give more chances to someone coming from money versus not

Like her ideas were very basic and if someone poor had them they would have been laughed out of places.

I think the show just highlighted how shallow everyone is and connections being more important than substance at any given moment.

See there is the problem with the American society.

    I agree with you.

    It not just that though.

The show is actually portraying her as a hard working individual who had dreams. Some people now praise her for being iconic.

I think hustling is being seen as sth legit in today's culture

Also with antiwork movement, people believe its morally ok to rob organization, corporation and institution since thats all they do anyway

  • I liked THE SHOW and if I'm honest, I (up until a certain point; after the whole ordeal in Morocco...that changed) liked Anna IN THE SHOW (if you couldn't already tell by my avatar/signature.) However, the fact that I liked Anna in the show and even kind of...felt for her at times shows that that may have been their intention. I also don't agree that they portrayed her as a very intelligent woman, moreso than someone who just seemed to come from old money and so people "trusted her."

The real Anna is terrible and I think Julia Garner did a fantastic job at portraying Anna and her mannerisms. I've watched interviews with real Anna and all she does is deny, deny, deny. She even says something like "Oh, if someone is impressed by a $100 bill, then I don't know what to tell you." She's ridiculous, and what's disgusting to me is that Rachel Williams is getting a ton of hate and Anna somehow has a fandom.

A lot of people praise her for "scamming the rich" but I don't agree with that. Maybe, MAYBE I would've given it a pass if her intention was to help the less privileged, to maybe even help her family back in Germany, but she did it for herself, to create an "exclusive" club for the wealthy. How is that being any better than the rich she supposedly scammed? She wanted to be one of them, so I don't understand people calling her a queen and what not. Oh, and Neff is still her friend in real-life, as well. Seems pretty pathetic to me.

And THEN she has the gall to refuse to leave the US when she is supposed to get deported and asks for asylum because she thinks everyone in Germany hates her??? People are leaving their countries because they HAVE to and many times don't get granted asylum, get deported without a second thought and this woman thinks she is entitled to staying in the US? Give me a break.

Anyway, sorry this got long. I've got plenty of opinions on this woman, lol.
