Comparing South Korea to European countries

  • So South Korea has population with bit less than 52M people

    and land area around 100km2

How does it compare to European countries?

    well you might be surprised

countries just a bit smaller by land are Portugal, and Hungary

but both those countries have populations around 10M people, so much smaller

Ireland which is just bit smaller than SK by land area has... 10 times smaller population

Spain has 5 times bigger land area than South Korea, yet population is still smaller - 47M people

kind of closest country to SK in Europe could be UK which has 67M people, and land area of 242km2

that gets even closer when we add NK and SK land and population and compare it to UK

  • South Korea has 511 inhabitants/km2 which is approx the 4th highest density of population in the world if you don't count ultra small countries (and including Taiwan). The closest european country is the Netherlands with 457 inhabant/km2.

The highest density by far is the Bangladesh with 1094 inh/km2, 2 times more than SK. Their land area is less than 50% higher than SK but their population is 3x higher lol.
