How much influence and power do you think JYP, YG and SM still have over the company they used to lead?

  • I can think of other instances where SJ members had their own way against LSM's recommendations like when Kyuhyun insisted to release At Gwanghwamun and D&E insisted to have Growing Pains as the title track instead of The Beat Goes On

  • I'll just say this, all of the CEOs and heads of subsidiaries in YG are all "YG people"...meaning they've been there since the beginning in 1996 or have been there for 10+ years.

CEO of YG Hwang Bo Kyung

She's been in YG for 22 years. She worked her way up the company.

CEO of YGPlus. Sung Jun Choi.

    12 years with YG.

    THEBLACKLABEL. CEO Teddy Park.

Started as an artist in YG in 2008.

YGX CEO Lee Jae-wook. With YG for 10+ years.

But some say it's Choice37. He's been with YG for 14 years.

    YGKplus CEO Go Eunkyung.

She merged her model agency with YG in 2014 and has been the CEO ever since.

There's a bunch of other subsidiaries, but those are the main ones.

YG wasn't the CEO of YG when he left. YG is a massive multi-national company with several subsidiaries and in several industries.

The current CEO is a graduate of one of the SKY universities and her background is in finance. YG's brother, Yang Minsuk was CEO before and has a similar pedigree and business acumen.

So it had grown to the point where you need someone that their talents are as executive.

YG's (the person) role was as Executive Producer for the music label part of YG. He made all decisions or gave final approval on anything from songs, debuts, trainees etc.

And I am of the belief that is still his role unofficially.

Yang Hyunsuk sold all of his shares of YGPlus a couple of years ago and made a ton of money. But he's still the biggest shareholder of YGE, who owns majority shares in YGPlus. Which is important because YGPlus has become one of the largest music and merch distributors in the industry.

YG's brother used to be the CEO of YGPlus. He ended up selling most of his shares in YGPLUS. Although he is still a director in YGE.

So the answer is clear. YG (the person) still holds significant influence in YGE through the people. And he's well-liked by the staff and artists there, despite whatever narrative Kpop fans like to invent.

An article last year said he was still dictating some of the final construction within their new $180 million building
