Famous and Forgotten

  • I wonder what it would be like to be associated with a famous act, yet ignored other than by hyphenation to that famous person/song.

IU has 3 such cases -

Thunder of MBLAQ, every year Merry Christmas in Advance charts well for few weeks, but credits are to IU.

Jang Yi-jeong, Friday remains a popularly charting song, but at least JYJ became a BTS producer.

High4, again Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms remains well loved,

Do these people get royalties from the success of the song, even if fame/credit has evaded them?

Industry of course has a lot of failures, before debut, after debut etc., but to be a part of a popular release, yet a failed career, that is another stage.

Are there other such cases in Kpop?

Popular songs arising from a collaboration - but one of the collaborators have faded into obscurity.

Changed the title of the thread from “Shadowed under the fame.” to “Famous and Forgotten”.
  • Thougts WhyKnock ?

They do get royalties for their song, although El Capitxn probably earns more from his involvements with Hybe and his portion in the song Eight.

I don't know about Thunder and High4, but at least they would have some income.

Lee Jieun even added the names of Kim Jehwi and Kim Heewon in the credits for Through the Night though she didn't have to (pay them a single royalty and claim all the rights). So it is likely that she is giving their shares since Sandara Park (Thunder's older sister) , although not with YG anymore, is still in showbiz it is not a good idea to anger her and it was IU's idea to help High4 who did go nowhere.

Oh I used IU cases only as an example. But was looking for other such cases.

As to loyalties, I don't think it is a "choice", but contractual with whichever companies Thunder/JYJ/High4 belonged to and their legatees.

They get to waive, I don't think it is for IU/LOEN to deny, or there might have been done other kickback in another way.

At least I assume so, business is business - trade is in profits or favours.

  • In Korea there are a gazillion ways to cheat others their share. Lee Jieun is one of the few who are honest.
