  • Most of them seem to be doing pretty solid business as soloists tho?

Baekhyun, Kai and D.O. are the exception, not the rule to solo performance (and EXO is a much larger and better known group than GOT7, particularly when you talk about the group's individual members). Similarly, Kang Daniel is more of an outlier in terms of soloist performance.

This is the list of top-selling male soloists. You'll see the bulk of these top-selling soloists have sales below 190,000 - and again, these are the highest selling soloists.

The smallest selling album in the top 100 on Gaon was 111,497 copies.

Bambam sold about as many copies of his solo as Taemin on Gaon:

    77. #BamBam riBBon — 134,845 copies

    75. #TAEMIN Advice — 136,370 copies

    On Hanteo, he was #65.

Jay B sold about 90,000 on Gaon, not enough to make the top 100, but he did sell enough on Hanteo to crack the top 100 at #93 with 84,000 copies.

    I wouldn't call these flops.

(I did a quick look through the Korean Sales Twt account because I was interested in how they performed, because I recalled Jay B and Bambam doing pretty well.)

  • And did Jay B even really promote it? I think the next release will be a better indicator.

    Dang, Baek's numbers tho...

  • Dude if they renewed we wouldn't have this masterpiece

Not really. Bambam did the music show circuit. I think people just need to level the expectation here. None of these dudes were going to sell a million copies here. But not selling a million copies doesn't mean they flopped. Neither does not selling 300K for these specific artists. Once again, EXO has really raised the bar in people's performance expectations!

  • Jay B, Yugyeom, and Youngjae aren't really making idol music in their solo careers either. All of them are shifting to more traditional krnb.

Just for comparison... Gray released a full album last year and sold 4,500 copies. Yugyeom released a mini album and sold 40,000.

  • Let's see, dividing the profits of 400k copies sold by 7 people (after the company takes their cut) or...100k for 1 person...which one is more profitable? :whatb:

Not to mention, Jinyoung with 2 dramas and a movie role in 2021, or Jackson and Bambam with their 500,000 cf deals, or JayB with his radio show, Adidas deal, and 20,000 magazine shoots, or Youngjae with his musical, 2 tv shows, and his radio stint. Yeah, these men are really struggling. How are they surviving? :crys::pepestare:

  • No.

They're doing just fine. They're happy and doing what they want to. They still have a lot of support. It's enough for them and it's enough for us.

  • I’d say they’re making more money now than they did before.

So are they really flopping if they’re making more money?
