WayV flopped in China because SM didn’t even try to understand how Cpop works and it pisses me off

  • They could’ve/could be so BIG like they genuinely have great songs and members that could get a lot more popular. SM is thirsty for China money but doesn’t know how Cpop works…

SOLO STANS DRIVE CPOP. Nobody supports a group they support a member and buy their stuff as a group. In MANY cases a member’s solo work will outsell the group’s release.

They want China money? LET THE MEMBERS PROMOTE INDIVIDUALLY. On VARIETY SHOWS, DRAMAS… That’s how you grow a fanbase. SM refusing WinWin for Meteor Garden was the biggest mistake ever they’re so stupid. WinWin used to be popular in China but many stars came out while he got nothing and he lost his momentum thank God he got a new drama and will bounce back.

You release group music first then each member gets a solo. That’s how it works.

Cpop is not like Kpop at all. A simple google search would’ve made them realize how it works. It feels like they didn’t even try.

  • I agree, I never knew SM denied WinWin for meteor garden...that's shocking... SM also just always seems to put WayV on the back burner, there the least invested in sub unit. They have so much potential but SM lost the plot with them.

  • WayV deserved better, each member could become as big as Luhan and Tao.. all of them are stan attractors

No, they are not the least invested - some of their music videos be looking hella expensive. Far more than 127 gets these days. Also Lucas was heavily pushed in NCT - not SM's fault he ended up being a poor investment due to his "extracurricular" activities.

Exactly WayV has so so much potential and it frustrates me that SM has no idea how to handle them

I’ll never shut up about how WinWin being in Meteor Garden could’ve skyrocketed not only his but WayV’s popularity as a whole…

  • They barely got to promote for a year before covid sidelined them. They never got a chance to give the members a solo.

  • Your concern seems pretty genuine, why are you hiding in the anons?

  • maybe they knew that lucas was a ticking time bomb, which made wayv not worth to invest too much in

  • I mean, SM does the same in the West with their groups as well. They may as well not even have a market research department if they are never going to use it tbh. They stubbornly only do what they want and when it doesn't work out, they don't learn or adjust, they just keep doing their own thing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but even EXO had a lot of potential to do well in the West had they shown some more earnestness toward the market they were trying to enter.

  • If they promote individually and become very famous, they will become pigeons like the other C-members. Sm doesn't want that they want the group to be bigger than the members.

  • they flopped in their main market with c members at that
