In most years , SM made sure its male idols did the final stage, something it considered as a big honor.
Stations listened to SM's demands so BTS did not get the final stage, and with a bunch of other reasons, Hybe acts have not been showing up in MBC's shows since 2019.
But this year, a lot of things had changed.
Melon's final act was IU, probably the first time she got to perform last (Even in other shows where she got the Grand Prizes, she was not the last act.)
MAMA's final act was Lee Hyori and the Street Women Fighters.
And, now the KBS Year-end show has Red Velvet as the last performer.
I have watched the year end shows from 2007, and while I don't remember every single one of them, to the best of my knowledge this is the first time a female act closing the show (not counting 2018 KBS year end show which ended with the veteran trottist Kim Yeonja in order to hide the controversy that EXO performed last.)
Although RV is SM, which continues the tradition of SM acts closing the year end show, Mr. Sooman Lee did allow Red Velvet to exercise its seniority over NCT.
I wonder who will close the SBS year end show. Since Red Velvet closed the KBS year end show I expect it to do the same in the SBS show as well, and since no Hybe acts will show up in the MBC yr end show, it might even close that one too.
Next year's golden disk digital awards are expected to be closed by IU (or aespa), and only the album awards might be closed by a male act (BTS or NCT).
