No hate but how is 2NE1 THIS irrelevant?

If you compare them to SM and JYP older groups, the difference is striking.

SNSD is still super relevant as a group 15 years into their career. Taeyeon is also one of the biggest female soloists in SK, Yoona has a successful acting and modeling career, and I feel like Sooyoung saw a rise in popularity recently as well thanks to her acting roles. Even taking it back to 1st gen, Eugene is pretty popular thanks to her acting in Penthouse. For JYP, Sunmi is most likely past the peak of her career but she still made it pretty big on her own. She is definitely better known amongst kpop stans than any 2NE1 member that is for sure, and her song with JYP actually did really well in SK last summer. And Suzy is still huge, starring in huge dramas and getting big CFs.

Meanwhile, zero 2NE1 members were able to have successful solo careers, whether it be in music, acting, modeling, or anything else. Dara is extremely wealthy, but it's mostly from non-idol related business. While she stayed with YG until last year and never even tried her hand at a solo career, the rest did and all bombed. CL can score an event to Met Gala, sure, but at the end of the day she is still struggling to sell 10k and charting exactly nowhere. It's crazy to me that a big 3 group who were so big at their peak have had such little success as individuals...YG doesn't even blacklist their former idols in the industry the way SM does

Poor management from YG and members not really solo material.

Everyone knows about YG management so need to talk about that.

CL. Waaaay to focused on America that she ditched her Korean fan base. Then when she flopped in America she had no where to use as a back up. Compare to Tiffany. She wanted to try America but never left her Korean fans while in SNSD. When she left SM and went to America she still had Asian tours and a large amount of Asian support even when she flopped. Now in Korea she's back on TV regularly after her flag scandal.

Minzy. She was nugu outside 2ne1. Zero individual presence (no TV, no music, no CF etc). So when she left she had no fans.

Dara. Was just a pretty face and that's it. She wasn't it girl and didn't do anything like getting lots of cfs or magazines. She never made a splash in TV shows or drama.

Bom. Had good solo success then years of nothing. Then her scandal basically took her to zero. She had a decent CB after and got into queendom. But absolutely nothing since.

They were dependent on yg and teddy

When you really think about it, 2NE1's main selling point was Teddy so figures

I have said it a bunch of times, teddy was carrying them. CL a bit too but she wasted her career by being so desperate to break into the u.s market

YG management is mostly to blame here but the others have explained very well why the members are not that relevant as solos.

As to CL, she should have striken while the iron was hot but she spent years in America for her debut and everything else happened without her actually debuting so everyone got tired of waiting and just moved on.

YG never really cared about them as solos (something SM seems to do, look at their most successful groups, most of their members have solo careers), and he did nothing to clean their image when Bom's scandal happened (even his explanation for disbanding 2ne1 seemed to put the blame on Bom).

I hope BlackPink fares better but I don't trust YG anymore.

Too many competitions. Idols nowadays are talented. They don't have Blackjacks support anymore, them Blackjacks turned into Blinks and hopped the wagon. YG saw that Blackpinks had more sellable status than 2en1, and so the focus is on BP. The members are more visuals and pleasing to the eyes. Yeah beauty is in the eyes of the beholder blah blah bullshit. No hard feelings, but reality is that sex sells.

only one person so far has mentioned visuals so I will reiterate that point. For how much much shit people give visuals they seem fo forget that those same visuals are they ones that (usually) get casted for cfs snd acting gigs. No offense to 2NE1, but do you guys honestly see someone like Minzy or CL being casted for a lead role in a drama?

Bom had a chance, but her plastic surgery addiction had a lasting affect on her career even moreso that the drug scandals. Idols can over come scandals but their faces are usually vital for tjeir careers.

Dara actually could have stood s chance but rather than being unable to remain relevant, she actually just seemed disinterested in solo promotions.

As for CL she's the only one I think was a victim of mismanagement. Even if her visuals aren't on 100 she still had a lot of charisma like Hwasa but failed to live up to the same potential. Speaking of Hwasa though, with how well her latest comeback did, maybe charisma just isn't enough long term and you still need the visuals to keep u somewhat afloat.
