What is it with CEO in K Dramas??

  • Why is Korea obsessed with calling their boss CEO instead of their actual name?

This drove me crazy on "Because this is my first life" and now I've got "Level Up" on in the background and they to refer to their boss as CEO.

I mean do you refer to your friend as Mailman instead of Bob? Or your bff as Waitress instead of Samantha?

Raise your hand if you always call your grandma Walmart Greeter.

  • they mostly call them daepyo-nim

  • It's not just a "CEO" thing though ...it's basically how the whole Korean language works

They rarely call each other by their own names, they've got titles for everything

Friends who were born in the same year use their names why calling each others, also seniors towards juniors, or or parents towards their children

But if you're a shop owner, they'd call you that...if you're a mother/father of a kid whose name is Sung Kyu for example, they would call you "Sung Kyu eomma/appa"(or the more formal version of the words) which is literally "the mother/father of Sung Kyu " because that's the thing that defines you the most in their eyes

So it's more about the status rather than the individual?

  • Has you never been in a workplace? Your boss is NOT your friend. And, how do you call the professor of your class? "Professor" or "Micheal", especially when he is 2 decades elder than you? How a private call his leader "sarge/captain" or "Peter/Mr. Logan"?
