nah, it's the music.

not even their fans like their music enough to stream to match their sales
Listening to music to match sales is the stupidest thing I've ever read on this forum. Congrats.

I swear someone makes a thread about this on anons daily.

Putting the song on repeat isn't what streaming is. Simply listening to the song is streaming. If every nct group can sell 2m albums comfortablybbut can't beat rookies at simply listening to music, then it's understandable that people question why that is.
Nct are a top3 boy group yet their streams on all platforms bar the kcharts are in the gutter. I too wonder why other younger groups get better streams than them.

this is all true but nctzens will never answer the question

that wasn't the question though? the question is why their songs tank on streaming platforms.
i was just making an observation :shyy:

They have a lot of different units, there's a lot going on.

this is all true but nctzens will never answer the question
We have answered this question several times. We're just tired of it at this point.
Number one, things like streams and views are amassed by casual listeners and NCT don't have many of those because their music is polarising. You either love it or hate it, that's why most of their listeners are hardcore fans.
Number two, mass streaming is a strong suit of kpop fans but not NCTzens. We have all seen that thread about Spotify wrapped where people literally spent hundreds of thousands of minutes streaming music in spotify (up to 400k) and were pretending that's entirely normal while their top 5 often consists of different versions of the same song. It's obviously what's going on there and that's not part of NCTzens fandom culture. We're laidback when it comes to streaming and only consume music to enjoy it. Also in that same thread you can see that the NCTzens here all had NCT at the top of their Spotify artists but I digress.
Number three. There are 4 NCT subunits and 5 Spotify accounts. Even if fans want to mass stream it would be divided by 4th or 5th between all the units and different discographies. Most the groups you all are talking about release one or 2 albums/ep per year, meanwhile NCT released 2 full albums, 2 repacks, 2 EPs and a bunch of separate singles in 2021 alone, not to mention Resonance pt2 which was released around the end of last year. So we have like the quadruple of the music other fandoms have to stream in the same period of time. Not even counting the rest of their huge discography. So it's only natural there would be a limited number of streams per album or unit.

I see nothing wrong with mass streaming. It's a way of supporting your faves.

It's a matter of perspective. I refuse to stream music for any other reason aside from my personal enjoyment. I enjoy NCT's music, that's exactly why I stan them and I stream their music but I don't go out of my way to deliberately stream for the sake of amassing numbers.
That being said, I think fans that mass stream songs obsessively for the sake of achievements don't have any right to judge other people's music consumption habits.

Of course. But within Kpop, it is very much a large component of it and trying to act like it’s not is disingenuous.
High streaming numbers are reflective of lots of different people streaming your song (casual users listening to Adele) or a core group repeatedly streaming (many Kpop groups.) Some groups have both.
Fandoms host streaming parties on Twt and forums to boost numbers. Sometimes they host streaming parties to hit targets, get music show wins or earn a spot on a chart (or keep someone else from getting it.)
The Weeknd’s fans are not running streaming parties to boost his totals, just listening to his songs. Mariah Carey gets a boost on streaming because people are excited about Christmas and play her songs.
Again, what happens is Kpop is different to other parts of music. That is the nature of the genre.
Everyone knows NCT is not a group with lots of casual fans, so it is reliant on its fans to boost its numbers. Those numbers are further split across 5 Spotify accounts. As many have noted on this thread, including me, NCTzens aren’t big on things like streaming parties or mass streaming.
However, I just did a search to see just exactly how they’re doing on streaming platforms from an aggregate perspective. On Dec. 1, Apple Music reported NCT 127 as one of their top 10 most streamed Kpop artists worldwide and on Spotify, NCT 127 are among the only 12 Kpop artists with over 1 billion streams.
So clearly, people are listening quite a bit to the music even if it’s not the amount others here and on twt seem to expect it to be.

I agree with you but there was no need for you to make some subtle dig at the users in this site by trying to imply that they're streaming because they don't enjoy the music but rather because of " streaming culture". NCTzens don't have space to talk or shade other fandom cultures when the fandom is known and characterised for its extreme saesang behaviour.
-
Enhypen and TXT getting lots of streams from armys since armys use their songs to diversify their playlist and many of them are fans or casual listeners. Stray Kids have strong streamers in general. NCT has five spotify accs so streams kinda split, also their music is pretty much experimental so kinda acquired taste not everyone gonna like.

People here can't shut up about NCTzens supposedly not streaming NCT's music because they don't like it, but god forbid anyone criticises other fandoms obviously obsessive mass streaming. Give me a break.
Anyway, I am fully aware of NCT's toxic fans, saseng or otherwise and I denounce them and would never defend them or deny their toxicity. So I fail to see how their mere existence should prevent me from criticising other kpop fans' behaviours.

For hardcore fans that go so hard for sales you will expect them to go hard for streaming too(it’s cheaper too). But alas that dedication does not translate to streaming unlike 4th Gen stans.
Just admit the music is not popping for majority of your fandom
