I don't get why Chen affected Exo's popularity so much

Exo had already had three relationships revealed publicly? If Kai and Baekhyun were dating, it's not a far stretch to assume the other members were dating too, especially considering they are grown ass men in their late twenties and early thirties. Why did Korean EXO-ls drop the whole group that fast with Chen's news like it wasn't already obvious that Exo aren't a bunch of virgins waiting around for their fan girls? Chen isn't even the most popular member or anywhere close to it

And Korean fandoms know a lot more about their idols anyway. No doubt that many fans were aware of Chen's news before it went public

It's weird because most fans who were into it deep and all the sasaengs knew about Chen's gf for a long time

Even I knew about her

A lot of them hated her because she'd post the gifts he bought her to social media and did the lovestagram thing (without him participating), but tolerated her

It can't be just that

They lost too many members

Chanyeol's scandal

Kai's double dating scandals (which fans were pretty chill about)

Baekhyun's scandal

EXO had pretty rabid k-fans who got too spoiled and too into the koolaid

SM allowed them a lot of things and I believe a lot of them deluded themselves into thinking oppas were theirs

A lot of them are vindictive bitches who use every opportunity to diss and sabotage the group now

Because a dating scandal can end tomorrow, a marriage and a baby, not.

EXO refused to kick out Che when the news came out. It showed fans they were powerless in the end.

Young fans tend to take these news pretty bad. It's not the end of the world, but for them it feels like it.

exo was on a decline in popularity. ofc they're still popular but the members are enlisted and they had a couple of scandals so ofc their popularity was hurt. I don't think it's just with Chen, its a variety of factors!

I think people are uninterested when comebacks are not full. It’ll depend on how a full comeback may do after enlistment.

Will they ever have full cb tho? Seems like it's always one member after another rotate to enlist. Next year is their 10 years anniversary, if the rumors that said exo has 7+3 years contracts are true, some members like Lay might not renew.

Then that’s on that. Nothing can be done and we may see further decline and after a point it’ll plateau and they will have a legacy of core fandom like tvxq or suju.
