why did d.o. and baekhyun's songs underperform in k-charts?

  • discuss. I thought they were popular since they are also actors?

I will not even talk about international charting. It's non-existent

    Approved the thread.
  • I wasn't surprised about Baekhyun because not even as a group were that great digitally.

But D.O. was a surprise. Exols hyped him saying he was a gp favorite so I expected him to do better.

  • Well, it's not like SM promoted their releases to the heavens. They kind of just came out.

(Not that Baekhyun could've been involved in much promo with the military enlistment either so like........... :| )

  • Who cares about charting - ROSE was a great song and I'm not even an EXO/DO fan particularly

Good music >>charting except for success stans

besides - his fans were satisfied and the album sales were good. A successful debut in my opinion.

you said they underperformed. what would you consider a good performance?

  • because majority of k-fans already left since chen scandal

  • surprised as well. i would have expected it do better because they have a LOT of exposure in their acting gigs.

  • surprised given their gp exposure. i guess people overestimated the so called gp even if both are big actors

  • EXO peaked and its over

But their fandom is the loyalest of all

  • Because they are old.

  • Exo was relevant only amongst their fans. They weren't like BigBang who were famous outside fandom. Only those who are popular do good on charts. Exo were never popular as much as their fans say.

  • Tell us how well can your faves sing instead

  • Because they marched to the beat of their own drums. Baekhyun seem more oriented to what people may like but D.O. was firm in doing what he liked.

And Baek is not as recognized an actor as D.O. is and his recognition only seemed to really picked up after 100 days with my prince, which was his last drama before enlistment so people may have forgotten about him in that time. Coming back after two years and releasing an album before any acting gig that may make people interested again means people who like him as an actor may not be interested in checking him as a singer.

And promotion. SM did the bare minimum as Baek was going to the military and D.O. was busy with his acting projects.

And EXO is in a hiatus and they have yet to bounce back from Chen´s news and promote as a full group.

  • Exo fans greatly exaggerated their presence with the public, public simply don’t care for Exo solos music. Male idol soloists aren’t generally popular with the public so it’s really hard to stand out. Only GD has had a long successful musical career while others may get their 15 minutes of fame (Kang Daniel anyone). In the fact the last big male soloist from SM on the charts was Kyuhyun and even he fell off after his first comeback.

  • How can we exaggerate when we dont even talk about charts and popularity lol. We expect good music from them and always get it.

D.o is loved by gp but he was in military for almost 2 years and when he came back he released a debut album with no promotion or a single stage. What did you expect him to do? Get a pak?

    :pepestare:

Baekhyun acted in 1 drama like 5 years ago. His osts did very well but rather than gp he has a solid fandom every exol knows this.

The dude is the best selling soloist rn, has the highest uls on melon for male soloist. Bambi charted on top 10 of all major korean charts+, 70 #1 itunes

But keep going you guys look funny and desperate trying to downplay their achievements

    :pepe-hehe:

  • I didn't know Baekhyun's solo underperformed w/GP? o_O" Isn't he one of the top brand-ranking male idols?
