What makes bts popular?

  • Right place at the right time and the way their company marketed them worked well. People may say talent or music but those are actually not that special. Lots of people are talented including BTS. There really isn’t a formula for success.

    • right place, right time:
      • the market wasn't as oversaturated as it is now
      • more people in Korea that weren't massive fans were interested in idols
      • kpop was starting to gain international attention, BTS appealed to international fans
      • social media was beginning to get big; Big Hit realised that you can promote really effectively with it; also made stanning BTS more accessible
      • there were no big active boy groups in the west
      • kpop competition was either completely different (EXO) or fell off (BAP), no 3rd gen groups with considerable following were similar to BTS
    • good marketing (Big Hit not being a big company at the beginning doesn't mean their marketing was shit; in fact they were pretty smart)
    • members are easy to tell apart: including their faces, voices, personalities
      • the members more or less had their own personas (which kinda led to stereotyping like Suga as the shady savage one, Jimin as helpless, etc.)
    • hand in writing songs: this made them feel more honest
    • concept appealed to young people between 15-23 which is the demographic that usually gets the most invested in idols (plus they're usually avid social media users)
    • the mentality of the fandom:
      • the belief that someone (companies, other groups, etc) is always out there wishing on the downfall of BTS made them really competitive
      • annoying tbh (commenting "any ARMY here??" under literally every video on Youtube) but it kind of worked
      • using BTS as a source of emotional comfort

Basically you are saying it was luck?

  • It's their music, their charm, the deep connection with their fans, their unique stage presence, choreos, gosh there's so many.

  • It’s BTS. The members themselves. Their honesty, love and sincerity towards their music, members and ARMY. They make songs that resonated deeply with others. They talked about issues that were uncommonly addressed in “Kpop”.

  • 2021 kpoppies still jealous and hungover

2015 - there was already demand for bts in the us fyi

  • It's because they are cute and good boys. There's 0 other reasons.

  • Basically you are saying it was luck?

No I said it’s not ONLY because of talent. Because talent is actually not something that’s uncommon. The wording is important.

  • them not being allergic to pen and paper and live singing

  • Bruh they overrated.

  • Antis keeps asking but you'll never get itt because your faves just ain't got 'it'

  • The best kpop has to offer and elevate kpop from cringy western pop wanna be to actually respected musicians (still just BTS but at least it’s a start)

  • Their music and charm of course.

  • Tbh I don't stan BTS but I think their music is pretty good

The members are charismatic and some of them are skilled

V and Jin are cute too

But tbh there is nothing special about them other other than being lucky because they are doing what everyone else is doing like bigbang NCT block b etc.. I would even say those groups have hotter and more skilled members.

  • Their discography was well produced despite them being managed by a nugu company and they had high budget mvs and unique concept. Their company put their trust in them and managed them well and that payed off and lastly obvs the members especially maknae line was stan attractor and rapline's mixtapes played a big role too.
