why can't SM have billboard hot 100 like JYP, YG and HYBE?

    Approved the thread.
  • It's hilarious cause they have been trying harder than all big companies. Hybe & yg tried much less with way better results

  • because they haven't realized that no matter how hard SM's try to push SMP kinda of song these song ain't gonna make it to the west

  • because they give their groups songs like joppin and sticker <X

  • Their music. They're trying to make the sm style a popular thing but it just isn't.

The one time they went with full out promo for billboard, they came up with jopping and somehow thought that was okay as a song. Their poor idols had to promote that with a straight face on talk shows.

  • Have you all forgotten about SuperM? The number 1 in BB200?

Ohh this is BBHot100. It is sad that even with boy OR girl avangers, SM can’t reach that too. Some things are easier to crack and some are harder (need organic growth).

  • Sm sound is the least successful internationally these days

I don’t think int fans like it all that much, the perfect hybe (txt,en, obvi bts) jyp (itzy skz twice) but out of all I think maybe yg has the best track record tbh (Big Bang 2ne1 bp) bv and 2ne1 were most popular groups in the west before bts, bp is #2 rn

  • Twice just barely managed to chart with the feels using 6 remixes all on discount. But now that billboard changed their rules I don't think jyp can reach hot100 anymore either.

  • Playing down Twice cos your faves didn't chart, sure.

Ignore that Twice had nearly 5m steams that week without touching a fraction of the domestic playlisting half the chart had, or without paid for spins with a reach of millions lol.

Fact is RV this time around are on several big enough US playlist, New Music Friday, Teen Beats and Women of Pop, so should hit at least the Bubbling Under.

  • as much as sm stans have weird superiority complex over sm music and sound, they don't attract casual listeners at all especially the nct/aespa or rv's weird red songs are a big no

  • also just 1 week at the bottom of the chart and also using tricks that probably wouldnt work anymore

If using tricks is what got groups onto the Hot 100 then every group would be charting on there.

They got on there fair and square

  • they got groups who has horrendous streams for a big 3

cause no one is tuning in

  • Partially no focus on the West, and when they do focus they do it the wrong way. Also no American distributor or partner makes things harder.

For some reason SM are also bad at making effective use of the opportunities that are presented to them, maybe because they work according to a plan and if things are happening that are outside that plan, they miss them or ignore them or underestimate them.

But when trends happen, you have to jump into them and surf the waves, so to say. Other companies, esp YG, are far better at this (even if their method of boasting by comparing their groups' achievements with other leading top groups might not be agreeable to everybody).

But there were years when some of their groups like SNSD and EXO were the biggest internationally. Yet SM did nothing with it or gave up too soon.

Same for Red Velvet, around Psycho they had the 2nd highest amount of monthly listeners in Spotify for a girl group.

But instead of promoting the heck out of their groups released songs that would do great in the West, they half miss the opportunity, and when they finally do promote, they come up with stuff like Jopping.
