Whats worse? A band-member enlists to the army or a group-member

  • When in a KPop-band for example the drummer would enlist to the army, could this mean the band has to go on a hiatus or could you imagine their company would include a computer-programmed drum-sound for their songs?

And what if the vocalist would go to the army and no other member is able to sing since they are a band?

Also is a band-member enlisting worse than if a group-member would enlist?

    What do you think?

    A.C.E | ATEEZ | DRIPPIN| MCND | NU'EST | ONF | SF9 | Stray Kids | TFN

  • Its definitely worse for the bands

Boygroups can do solo activities, bands not so much?

  • K-bands?

I suppose for enlistment they would go on hiatus. For example CN Blue went on hiatus but after they finished their service, they had a comeback after.

For Day6 I'm not sure things might be different. Sungjin enlisted but then the remaining members form a sub-unit. Young K is going to enlist soon but Dowoon is releasing his first ever digital single. I suppose for them they can have their own solo activities. Then there's Jae who will probably focus on his own solos more when the 4 Day6 members enlist eventually.

It's harder for bands I guess because typically bands have 1 or 2 main singers and without them, there is just ... no music (at least Day6 has 5 vocalists since all members sing).

  • In either case, it depends on how the member contributes. If there is only 1 person who can sing in a band, that's going to wreck things. For a group example, not having Yoseob would noticably impact the vocal dynamic in Highlight. I can't think of any other good examples in smaller guy groups that I listen to. Day6 and SHINee are more than dynamic enough to not have this issue.
