Personally I'd go for songs that have something intriguing, a twist or edge or unexpected.
So catchy songs but with a twist or unexpectedness would be ideal ![]()

Catchiness for sure or else so many high quality songs wouldn't fly under the radar. Even from my faves, I would say their most popular songs are their catchiest but not their best quality. I don't think it's a bad thing though, if I listen to the radio in the car I am more likely to look up the catchy song later because that's what I'll remember
High quality but for me, a high quality song also has to be memorable. It doesn't have to be catchy to the extent it gets annoying at some point, but if it's forgettable I won't think of it as high quality.
A catchy song can be high quality too but overall, I would choose high quality over catchiness. I prefer ballads or chill songs over catchy songs anyways.
High quality - I will read that as melody/tune
That is a never ending argument like chart topping vs. longevity.
And is also associated.
Catchiness is important to 'catch' the attention of listeners, hence bops/rhythms/beats are good at that.
But invariably the songs that last longer in memory, tend to be melodies, or rather the melodic part of the songs. They cross generations and remain popular, while many a past year catchy bop, quickly fades.
Of course this is relative, depends on the song and the time.
Human brains somehow are wired so.
So catchiness for immediate popularity,
High quality for longevity.
A bit of both....
