Why Do Kpop Albums Have So Much Quality Compared To Other Albums?

  • Ok so I decided to watch an unboxing of an album of a singer I casually listen to and what I see is a small plastic square box. I was incredibly disappointed and then I figured it was her label trying to sabotage her for the 400th time so I switched to Ari's lovely Sweetener album and I see the same freaking thing. Are their companies like trying to save money or are my expectations high? So then I decided to switch and see a Be and The Album unboxing video and was greeted from heaven. If you guys are confused about what I am talking about look at this

Bts - Be (deluxe Edition) (cd) : Target  Blackpink - The Album (cd Boxset Version 1) (target Exclusive, Cd) : Target

    And now look at this

Ariana Grande - Sweetener album. CD. Never opened.... - Depop

As you can tell, the top ones look fancy and stuff and while my poor Ari's looks like a small plastic box. And I have noticed this in other kpop artist's albums too so I don't think it is because it is BTS and Blackpink. So I was wondering, is this quality just in kpop albums if yes why do they have so much quality while other albums look like the manufacturers barely put any work to it?

  • You’re comparing box sets to jewel cd cases.

I’m the west (America) the Jewel CD case is the standard album packaging (which I wish BTS would release in too), the standard album packaging in. It’s small compact and has everything inside that’s needed. It’s cheap which increases album sales.

Kpop is actually what we’d call a box set in America.. and are more geared towards fans!

    Sweetener did have one!

  • That is nice! It makes more since now. I don't usually look into albums a lot so it is nice to know what people call it around here and stuff.

By Western standards, a regular K-Pop album would be considered a special edition or limited release or even a bundle. Albums in the US have always included minimal packaging for more sales and as the physical market died off, even the booklets have gotten slimmer. I bought a best of Britney CD last year just to have something in my car as a backup and it literally just had one piece of paper in the case. DVDs have become just about as minimal.

Japan is really the only country I can think of that puts a large amount of effort in their physical releases which makes sense because they are one of the last countries to embrace streaming.

  • Cause literally no one cares about buying physicals albums anymore in the west. People don’t want to buy them when they have access to download and stream music on their phones or devices.
