IP should be protected...(if possible)

if someone wants to steal it within the country then there are laws to deal with it...

if someone wants to steal it outside of the country well that's either stealing state secrets or a matter of international relations...

If you take out intellectual property you take out the incentive of developing new things, since everyone is free to copy and profit from your work.

But in some areas it's really sensitive, like in drug development. If you remove patents, the pharmaceutical industry won't develop new drugs. If you leave them, you may get abusive prices and the exclusion of the poor from healthcare.
