The article about Kim Jong-Un denouncing K-Pop got wide attention in the West. Most Western commenters (West-Netz?) immediately said that was the first edict Kim ever issued that they agreed with.

The idea that K-Pop idols are fake and talentless is universal in the West, and the first thing that comes to mind when the genre is mentioned. It isn't really going to be possible to fix that, since the more talented vocal groups like Mamamoo do not speak English nor promote internationally.

I agree. That notion hinders kpop. Also groups like mamamoo don't show any interest in promoting internationally. Sk gets to keep all the good stuff.
