no kidding though I think its because of the look, 黄毛丫头 （lit. yellow haired girl -- the last two characters are rather disrespectful) is a sort of insult and she might've been seen as the physical manifestation of it. Not going to lie though, as the article said, she did move to the Netherlands so being almost a white-blonde is probably more accepted there.
