Should KPOP companies try and market their groups towards an older demographic?

    I'd actually like to see that happen. Older people are usually more financially secure, so they're able to support their group alot more compared to teenagers(KPOP's main demographic). Most people were surprised when Kim Ho-joong sold over 500k with his album(he's literally nugu internationally, so I think all his sales came from Korea), but the truth is his fandom is comprised of mainly ahjummas who saw him through Mr Trot(a very popular trot show), so his sales weren't surprising.


    And we all know how Lim Youngwoong fans stream all night on Melon, Genie and other sites, taking over the real-time charts. They literally move like boy group fandoms in the sense that they mass stream, mass buy and mass download.


    Plus I think they'd be more respected in Korea compared to your average idol group, especially if they have a say in their music.

    As I said in the other thread, most people stop listening to new music after 30 because they have other priorities in life. So I don't think it's an easy task to enter the older demographic market. Kim Ho-Joong and Lim Young-woong were only able to do it due to TV exposure.


    I thinking letting their fandom grow up is more manageable than attracting new older fans.

    Younger people are more willing to dedicate time and money to things they care about a lot and they are easier to trap into something, like getting addicted to kpop

    The smartest move is to keep focusing on the younger population, which is why so much of kpop is catering to young girls imaginations because they are the most profitable

    Adult fans are more into deeper meaning things and not some bubble gum, ladida music

    They deal with real life and they need things that help them do so, for some it's the meaningless things, but for most it's deep meaning things or engaging things

    Plus adults work and don't have the time to spend on kpop and all that includes except for the few that slip through the cracks somehow

    JYP kinda did that with Twice when they first debuted and I was creeped out to say the least running into lots of older men making comments about them at K-CON 2016 <X


    If they are not minors and agree to the older concepts sure but minors like Twice, Nine Muses and Stellar during their first 2 years and having to have older members literally protect them from wardrobe malfunctions with the outfits, no dice for me.


    I do appreciate you bringing up this topic though. I feel like JYP learned from the weird Twice experiment on the appealing to an much much older demographic and have catered NIZIu and ITZY to teen girls and young adults who will grow through their early adult hood with them which is a much better approach.

    I’m a 50 plus, but I doubt K pop is ever going to be popular among the older set. People generally gravitate towards music of their generation, for me it was’80’s and older age groups are usually obstinate when it comes to tastes in music.

    Keeping Kpop groups together with a Generation fans. For example Gen 1 Kpop groups being active now and in the future. Like Gen 2 Brave Girls continuing success.

    Kpop groups getting so old their headling at County Fairs and Casinos. XD
