I think they acquired Pledis so they can claim SEVENTEEN. similar to how SM did to Woollim with INFINITE, and we saw how that turned out to be.

They disbanded GFriend, they don't give a shit about Pristin (unfortunately).

They just wanted money and Seventeen, since that was BTS's biggest competitor.
