Should DNA test for babies be mandatory?

  • Should DNA test for babies be mandatory? 15

    1. Yes (6) 40%
    2. No (9) 60%

I just saw a video where men and women were asked this question and oh lord, it was a heated debate.

But what do you guys think ? Should men have the right to get a mandatory DNA test for their children?

Meaning a DNA test for everyone the moment a child is born ?

    Pro arguments for this is

    1. Women always know to 100% if the child is theirs, man don’t, so this would be fair.

    2. It could protect men from being scammed raising children that are not theirs.

    Discuss.

  • Why should it be mandatory? if the family has problems they can do it themselves but it shouldn't be something to force.

I might be understanding OP correctly or wrong I don't know. But I think OP isn't saying that it is a must to test, but rather IF the men choose to want to get their "child" tested, they should or shouldn't have the right to get the child a mandatory test.

Or maybe I'm understanding OP wrongly since the 2 sentences kinda contradict hm...

    SandyBee3 which one is it?

  • DNA tests have other purposes than parental testing. If they were mandatory, the companies wouldn't necessarily have to include parental data with the results. But DNA tests can tell you if the child has an abnormality or disease that could be dangerous, and allow them to get treatment or plan for accomodations at the earliest opportunity. I think that's valuable enough to mandate them. Just write into the law that parental data won't be included unless requested.

  • Paternity test kits available to general public for a nominal cost. Results in a few days with no legal restrictions on the Samples collected. Interesting advertising is targeted towards the Fathers.

Some relationship scenarios would make paternity testing reasonable. For example the Woman with two or more active sexual partners at the same time. The scenario a woman wanting a baby and her SO doesn't gets pregnant by other means.

Not an issue for relationships who value the children no matter who the bio father. Not an issue when Trust is strong in a relationship.

I don’t really get what you mean, but the debate was if it should be mandatory as in within the Law. And by request of the father they can have a look at the parenting results.

    Are you asking if

    1. DNA test should or should not be mandatory so that the Dad will also know if the baby is theirs? Regardless of whether they want or don't want to test

    2. DNA test should be mandatory if the Dad requests for it, so that he will know if he really is the Dad

Sad, stupid and hilarious at the same time.

lol nah. if the supposed father of the baby doesn't trust the mama then that's their own issues to deal with.

Yeah, but these test are hella expensive and if the mother refuses, it even has to go to court, which the one taking it to court has the pay too.

Also one argument was, if it’s mandatory and everyone does it, the “trust” question won’t even come up cause it’s mandatory and everyone will do it.

  • But if they are not allowed to refuse, isn’t it mandatory by request?

My bad ... I quoted you wrong, it as option 2 of what you said. Mandatory by request.

If it's option 2, then yes I think it should be mandatory by request.

I mean if the Dad chooses to want to have a DNA test, there probably is some trust issues going around. However, they should have the right to find out, if they really really really want to know
