Not "and" but "so" Magnetic shouldn't be used as a crutch.
If ILLIT never have a song that massive for the next 5 years, how long can people say "But Magnetic!!!"
Momoland had arguably, at WORST, the second biggest hit song of 2018 in Bboom Bboom, but I didn't see anyone claiming they were even a top 5 girl group of that era, and it has everything to do with the song being much, much more popular than the group.
That's what I'm saying.

This! I opened this thread and just see too much "Magnetic" reasoning. Sounds like a group living off of past glories rather than the top group.

..and?
We're two years into 5th gen so I don't see why 5th gen even has to have a top gg when their predecessors are still outperforming them in most metrics. They have time so give that to them.
Not every gg is NewJeans that can have hit accompanied by hit and you need to understand that. BAEMON peaked with Drip. Where's We Go Up? MEOVV did well with Hands Up. Where's Burning Up? H2H did well with The Chase and their latest comebacks but all those latest comebacks combined still doesn't match up to Magnetic's domestic and international dominance.
Cool your rainbow or have a snicker or something.

I don't know why you tried to transmutate an apple into an orange, but it didn't work.
I never said ILLIT had to do what no other girl group ever has done and perform at the lofty heights of NewJeans, but I do demand that people stop glazing Magnetic when ILLIT have fallen far short of their OWN bar in multiple comebacks now.
They captured lightning in a bottle with Magnetic. They regressed to what is now their mean since then, and I think that mean is lower than H2H CURRENTLY in Korea.
Top girl group today is about what have you done for me lately not two calendar years ago nearly.
Even I don't call NewJeans the top girl group, when they've been on hiatus a whole year

The problem with this argument is no other 5th gen group is performing better than them. I feel 5th gen isn't at a point where they'll consistently have songs chart in the top 10. Right now most groups are fighting to have song peak in the top 20. If we take out magnetic, then songs like Cherish and Do the Dance performed relatively the same as their peers.
I still strongly feel no groups has solidified a top spot like Aespa, Ive, and NewJeans, Maybe a group is a late bloomer like Idle, but I'm unsure how many groups will be considered in the top 5 in 2027. I just think 5th gen is in a weird spot where 3rd gen is still going strong and most people are sticking with their 4th gen groups.

Their popularity took a hit after some exaggerated accusations but their popularity is no longer on a downward trend, DtD did a lot better than cherish. I don't really see any indication that h2h is more popular domestically. Aside from magnetic their songs are charting around the same level. If focus doesn't rise significantly then it's quite a bit weaker than illit's last release.
The question is about top 5th gen group so it doesn't matter their other songs didn't come close to magnetic. Neither did any other 5th gen girl groups.

Is KIOF still popular in Korea? It felt they had casual listeners last year, but they didn't really have a secure fan base. I think their title track didn't crack top 75 and album sales below other groups mentioned. I feel H2H is for sure ahead of them. Also a possibility that Meovv and BM are ahead of them in Korea.
H2H are currently doing better than KIOF but KIOF still had a consistently good year last year! I believe on average they’re still above H2H currently but by next year things could change

Imo 1 or 2 lacklustre comebacks shouldn’t impact overall average

That's fair. I'm curious how they're comeback will perform. I think how they perform in 2026 will let us know where their place is among 5th gen groups. I think they're in the top 5, but just unsure if they're 3rd or 4th. I feel H2H should be more than fine because of the company they're in and will most likely remain a top 3 group in 2026.
