Am I the only one who found the 4th gen era quite short !?

  • Wasn't each Gen divided by 7 years? If so, then 4th Gen would've started in 2021, since 3rd Gen started in 2013, with 2nd Gen starting in 2005...

2nd gen started in 2003 and ended around 2012, and 1st gen started in 1992.

  • I am unsure as some of the labels and even the KPop generations documentary on KBS said we are still in 4th gen a little over a year ago, but people INSIST, it is 5th gen.

That makes more sense because it felt randomly the term 5th gen was being pushed. It didn't make any sense because ive, idle, newjeans, aespa, lsf, and a few other groups didn't come close in reaching their peak. The only popular 4th gen group that may have reached their peak in 2023 was Itzy and Kep1er.

Honestly, I wish the term generation can disappear. It feels like it's mainly used for bragging rights to make accomplishments look better. I feel like kpop is the only industry that cares this much about separating groups for marketing. I think groups should be able to stand on their own and not be separated by generations to stand out. The term generation would make more sense if there is a shift in sound and major trends.

  • When it comes to girl group you should even add 2-3 years I would say, 3rd gen 2015-2020, 4th gen 2020-

Yeah, I have said that multiple times, it made some kind of sence during 1-3rd generations, but somewhere during the 3rd generation it started to make less sence. We no longer have the same clear borders compared to 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd generations. Time to put the concept of generations to sleep and just say newer groups or gropus from early 2020ies or what ever, just not "generations". I still think it's an okay concept when talking about 1/2/3 generations, because the top groups are pretty clear in them. (girlsgroups at least)
