It seems Golden has ended the traditional Korean singing style once for all

  • I compared BTS and IU to Napoleon and Wellington.

Warfare in 1850s were little different from warfare in 1810s, although the introduction of railroads did change things a bit.

Then the US civil war broke out in 1861, and although the South had better generalship, it had weaker infrastructure.

Also, Richard Gatling invented the Gatling machine gun. Although he was born in South Carolina, he moved to the midwest and at the time the war broke out he was living in Indiana, ruled by the North.

Warfare completely changed by railroads and machine guns.

Wellington would not have done so well against a typical American Civil War general. Wellington's squares would have been blasted off by machine guns.

From then, until the end of WW2, wars were railroad wars. Key rail junctions often became bitter battlegrounds.

    ----

Golden put an end to the traditional way of singing in Korea, a tectonic change.

IU came back again and again because she was the last of the traditional Korean singing style, not affected by trot, recreating ballads from late 1980s and early 1990s before Seotaiji.

But, unlike 2014 when she completely overturned the existing structure of KPop and restored the old order as if nothing had happened, and completely wiped out the 2nd genration off the table (She had a greater success among the 3rd gen, despite of being a 2nd gen singer), this time those who grew up listening her style of songs are now listening to trot, and all of her allies have gone over to Golden since it is the newest hot thing.

I think from now on all Kpop songs will be variations of Golden or Saja boys songs. Ending IU's style of older songs, emphasizing pure vocals, and introducing the new style KPop Demon Hunters introduced.

Because of IU, all KPop acts had to at least maintain some degree of older style singing. Golden has ended that forever.

  • Wait ... trot isn't traditional Korean singing style?

  • shocking!

Weapons and infrastructure that is 40 years older than that of the opponent doesn't stand a chance.

    What a marvelous observation!

    Dumb comparison with music, though.

  • You're ignorant to think that anything can replace the traditional music of Korea and it borders on racism because you suggest that the Artists you mention represent Korean Music or Korean Traditional Music.

It's no wonder why Koreans think Non-Koreans are fools because based from your post you lack the understanding of a culture that is far superior to the one you represent.

  • Actually the Crimean War, 1856, was fought not much differently from the Napoleonic wars.

And IU did reintroduce a earlier 1990s ballad in 2017

Because of her, and her only, the old style still continued till at least about late 2024

  • So what are the differences between traditional Korean and trot? And Western singing?

The old style of Korean chants, followed by people such as Song Sohee, became irrelevant when Japan began to rule Korea in around 1910.

But, a 'Korean' style of singing was developed in 1970s, against the mainstream trot style copied from Japan, had become dominant in 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s until Seo Taeji made them irrelevant. IU revived such style and this is the end of the Restoration of the local style.

Both Golden and Soda Pop were produced by Korean-Americans and Korean-Canadians, those who left Korea and not part of the local tradition

  • I'm pretty sure IU and her style will survive, like trot survived kpop and is still strong in general public. Yep, soloist singers are still there.

Miss Trot and Mr Trot variety shows were a huge success, way more important than any kpop variety show. But the core public is not the same so they have their own market.

Interesting, you got really young participant in those show, who litteraly are better singer than any actual top kpop act. And some already started their carrier in kpop (see Unis Seawon who is still extremely young and was in Miss trot 2, but not the youngest nor the best).

And some ex-kpop acts change their carrier path to do trot, because it's a more mature music style.
