if they were a group like plave after the netflix movie then yes i think they'd be successful. but if they debuted just as a "virtual idol group" with no movie, then no. their songs might still have gone viral a bit but the movie was what really pushed them into mainstream

In Japan we have virtual ggs sold out Tokyo Dome, appeared in top 10 best selling artists in the year, invited to Kohaku Uta Gassen.

So it's not impossible for virtual ggs in Korea. But they'll need more than hit songs. Audiences' affection to the group themselves is a must.

If they had a spin off and became a group like PLAVE then yeah.

at least not any time soon

only reason plave can peak so high on charts is because of the overwhelming amount of dedicated fans

the second biggest virtual group(isegye idol) in korea also peaked quite high on the melon charts

not sustainable they all freefall after a while

You can last a long time without ever charting but with a fandom can do anything. So virtual groups need fandom which is far more important than having hits.

If anything if the reverse was true that is group just has a one off hit like KPDH but can’t amass a fandom that’s when it won’t be worth it.

yea that's why plave is thriving now

im just pointing out that korea's culture prevents a lot of virtual groups from succeeding in the mainstream

it's a lot more difficult for female virtual groups too

for huntrix to succeed as a vtuber group in korea they have to completely switch the mood to something like isegye idol or stellive, which the public will hate

No cuz their fame is supported by the movie. If not for the movie the songs wouldn’t get even 10th as big as they are right now.
