Ailee making her official debut on nugu promoter

  • Still in SK, there aren't many artists who can stand toe to toe with Ailee when it comes to vocals.

For that reason alone, she'll probably stay booked whether she flops physically or digitally. She'll still be able to pay the bills and perform , so... :dancer-pepe:

  • She is nowhere near to Sohyang

We're not talking about vocal skills my friend, and Ailee is one of the best female vocalist of all-time, she's in the TOP10, easily!

the new song is really very american, for a korean.

You mean "MMI"? Yeah, kinda of, but it's not like Kpop groups don't release similar songs but still chart with those.

Exactly! Sales and Charts doesn't matter in the long-run anyway. I mean, literal Icons like Kim Wansun is still active and massive in Korea, even tho she's 55, so her audience are not young people.

  • I don't think her marriage has anything to do with it.

She is not an idol to be affected by that.

Physicals are driven by group fandoms. So that too isn't unexpected for Soloists.

(That's also why group Soloists aren't true Soloists, but SolUnits who leverage group fandom)

But only her digital charting will tell.

Besides is more known for her OSTs.

  • I know, I meant in terms of status and popularity, not just vocal capabilities.

I mean, that's obvious, but in terms of popularity, I'm not sure, because sadly, Sohyang never win anything in Korea, for obvious reasons. She's not releasing typical pop songs.

  • Does she chart on streaming? I noticed K R&B and soloist don't sell a lot of units. It might be due to them not attracting stand but are respected. For example, Heize is one of my favorite musicians but she never sold more than 6k units. I know she's respected and I assume she probably does well on streaming.

I think the only female soloist that weren't in a kpop group moving a lot of units are Bibi and IU. Even somebody like Yerin Baek was in a kpop group I believe.

Back to Ailee, maybe she should focus on OSTs and musicals. I am just unsure what the market is for soloist as they get older in the industry. I think this is one of the things that doesn't look good in the Korean entertainment industry. I find there's more older artist in Japanese music industry thriving when compared to Korean music industry. It feels like kpop is the main industry where people move on from legacy acts quickly
