I've been listening to IVE's 'IVE EMPATHY' EP. Here are my thoughts!

  • It finally grew on me. Initially, I thought this was the one IVE release that I wouldn't vibe with, but it turns out IVE did it again for me.

"REBEL HEART" has strong "I AM" vibes with a bit of a nostalgic 2010s sound. I love Liz's bridge part.

But you know what? I think "ATTITUDE" is such an interesting title track. Wonyoung has writing credits! Can we talk about Liz more, please? Her vocals on this are lovely and satisfying. She's the secret weapon of IVE. Her ad libs and background vocals in the post-chorus to close out the song are just beautiful.

"Thank U" is my favorite B-side on this. It sounds like it could be a Red Velvet song. Did you know Liz has songwriting credits? :holding-back-tears:

Those are the highlights for me.

  • Yeah. It's a very good comeback. It's a no skip for me and there's a lot of replayability with the title track and b-side. I think Flu and TKO are my favourite b-sides on it.

Agreed, that Liz is their secret weapon. She might not be the most popular member, but she's what gives Ive music life imo. It's nice she's getting more chances to shine because I was worried in the earlier days when they minimized her lines

  • the songs are good but it's a pretty weak album to me compare to what they did in the past

"Attitude" had the potential to be my favorite track on the album, it was so good until the end with the rap part that doesn't fit the song at all and felt useless + the fact that the rap part placement in the song is so bad it comes directly after the chorus with no transition to smoothly brings the part

so listening to this song and this part appearing in the song so abruptly directly takes you out of the experience as listener

and i have the same complaint with "Rebel heart" and the "na na na na "part

i'll never understood why the producer thought it was a good idea to put this 2 part in the songs

and for the Bsides they are great (Flu is my favorite one)

but they are "too boring" and safe, i would have love to have at least a bsides like royal or blue blood in it where IVE can show that they are not a GG who always play it safely, and that they can exceed also in this type of song

overall i would have give to this album a 6/10

  • I feel like it's very difficult to top or even match I've IVE and I'VE MINE.

"ATTITUDE" is a really enjoyable song for me now despite not liking it as much at first. Liz made me love it. That, after I looked into the lyrics more, I really love the song's empowering, positive message. I actually like the rapping because it provides some contrast to the song. I don't think rap verses have to match the feel of the song; I think they can be very effective when used for switching things up. That's just a matter of preference, though.

I recommend listening to this for further appreciation of Liz's vocals. :holding-back-tears:

I agree with the B-sides being a bit too safe this time around. I don't find myself listening to "FLU," "You Wanna Cry," and "TKO" very much. I have a soft spot for "Thank U," though.
