JYP ent have acquire EDEN ent and their BG ALL(H)OURS

  • Yep just like JTune Camp did back in 2013. They buy them out and then they from then on also control their comeback schedules, etc.

I hope they treat them better than they did JTune's artists but I do not have much hope.

I'm completely not sure what happened in 2013 since I wasn't around back then - what happened?

I guess my question is will the artists under eden be integrated into the respective JYPE divisions or will it be a separate subsidiary say like Woolim under SME or TBL under YGE?

So basically Rain at the time was at his peak of popularity and the execs he appointed to JTune Camp management were mishandling money and stuff. MBLAQ suffered repeated cancelled schedules and their music show awards and personal items got sold off by a member of staff at a flea market in South Korea without their permission.

JTune management then decided they wanted to sell out to JYPE in 2010, as they were just not wanting to do what Rain was paying them to do. JYPE then bought a majority of the shares in the company, on the stock market and Rain signed over the company and it's assets as he thought they would get treated better than they were by those he put in charge, and JYPE would have control even if he did not merge with them as they owned now more than 50% of the company stock. Then JYPE disbanded MBLAQ at their peak in 2016 after not supporting them well, and Rain left JYP for the second time to join Cube Entertainment in 2013 as JYPE was not handling things the way he thought they would. TWO X, a girl group that was under the company (JTune Camp), was completely left abandoned by JYPE.

JYPE then closed JTune in late 2016, finalizing it in 2017, and sold off boy group Madtown as well as their copyright and masters, without the group agreeing to the sale, which violated the terms of their contract. The group had a say in any management or company changes the group would undergo, in their contractual agreement. Their contract was then dissolved as the courts determined it was null and void due to the change of company and management without the group's permission.

On November 6th, 2017 Madtown announced their disbandment via their lawyer as the company who bought their masters and name from JYPE refused to allow them to continue to use the name due to them suing them for breach of contract.

Which is why I am afraid for ALL (H)ours, because I have seen this story before.

Edit: TBL is now fully independent, YGE only owns a small stock in them, Teddy got majority ownership in the company back now. Which is why they have separate distribution contracts for their artists than YGE now.

  • interesting

I guess the question is how popular and SUCCESSFUL are all hours?

are they bringing home the bacon? since that's all that ultimately matters to a kpop company

ALL (H)OURS is the only non big 4 Korean Boy Group who has successfully charted on Oricon's top 10 repeatedly over the last year. So, basically yes they bring a lot of bacon. They are essentially the only non big 4 boy group who was a threat to Stray Kids as far as Korean boy groups. They have not even been out an entire year, they debuted in early 2024 and are already selling close to 100k physical units per project in South Korea alone, not even accounting for Japanese sales.

WAIT i was obsess with Two X when they debuted and ring my bell

I was so sad that they were from a small company that were unable to manage them

And i always thought it was the reason of their disbandment

Didn't know that it was because of JYP that they completely disappear from the radar

When their debut and ring my bell was pretty well receive by international fans

    Now i really hate JYP

  • Yeah they did not officially confirm their disbandment until late 2014, which is years after JYPE started their takeover. ;( I am sad, all the girls ended up basically disappearing after the group was released from their contracts.

Edit: I just pulled up the notice again, it appears even the members were confused on if they actually disbanded or not and their ownership of copyright and masters were moved over to an independent company in 2014, then they did basically nothing still until 2017 when they were dropped again.

    Quote from Eun's instagram

In January 2016, it was announced that Minjoo had left the group.

In June 2018, Eun revealed via Instagram that the group had disbanded quietly.

2024? that's even more interesting considering they seem do to alright and making money

I wonder what the rationale is for JYPE to buy or EDEN to sell

  • Well for JYPE it is to knock off their competition. For EDEN it is the execs just seeing money signs more than likely

I wonder for like groups in their second or even third contracts - will they be able to have a "no trade" clause so to speak like for certain sports athletes that in order for a company to sell a kpop groups contract that they need the express consent of the said group

obviously for smaller and first time contracts I doubt that it's possible but maybe for the bigger groups or second/third timers

I mean Madtown had that clause and JYPE just straight up ignored it and sold them off to a investment firm backed company. Sadly I doubt it will stop them, as the fines for breaching contract are a drop in the ocean compared to the profit from selling off artist's copyright and publishing. I hope that the clauses do become more common place though, maybe if more people ask for them during contract renewals, it could dis-sway people from selling off artists' contracts and publishing without speaking to them first.

It happens very often in the western music industry too. Artists frequently find out they have been traded, at the same time the public does.

which is why I always say that kpop idols need to get themselves a lawyer so that at the very least they understand what's in their contracts

I agree, however sadly currently companies still will threaten families who are in poverty with "well this contract won't be available by the time a lawyer looks at it" etc

unfortunately that's the sad reality of life that no one will consider your own interests other than you and others will take advantage of your situation

if you cannot afford a lawyer then one cannot afford to spend the next 7 years (plus training) of your life under a (potential) slave contract

I'm pretty certain that it's not limited to kpop contracts either but in entertainment industries around the world
