Outcry about idol mistreatment has really quieted down this era

  • Fan outrage over mistreatments was one of the big concerns in the past. Now it feels a lot more subdued in comparison. If you search "mistreatment" in the forum you'll see it was a popular topic in 2021. Now it's 2025 and there's been many instances, such as SM mistreating Taeyeon and Wendy, Starship posting DF of Yujin, VCHA's self-harm experience working for JYPE America, Gaeun's SA by Madein's CEO, HYBE staff mocking Jungkook for an Instagram post. It doesn't get the same traction as before. I think kpop fans were more outraged at Starbucks than at kpop companies. Do you think kpop fans have realized that kpop is just for entertainment/escaping reality and trying to "change the industry" as LSF Yunjin once said is never meant to happen. Fans may have adopted a more pragmatic view, recognizing the entertainment nature of kpop and the limitations of fan action in influencing powerful companies and the only result is getting emotionally drained. Even if fan outrage seems less pronounced, the issues of mistreatment and exploitation within the kpop industry remain serious but it's just part of life that the majority of injustices remain unsolved.

  • There were many more active users back in 2021. More users meant more personalities and more interests. There was a lot more of everything. That's all there is to it.

But if you're so invested, why aren't you doing more to address these injustices?

  • I made a thread some-what about this in the past?

That didn't gain much traction so I sorta get what you mean but I wasn't here in 2021 so I wouldn't know the difference. But yeah, going with what superyeah said, if outcry about mistreatment has quieted down then do something about it.

It might not currently be possible to change the industry but you CAN make an impact on here.

I for one have always realized this. My main interest is understanding what changed the zeitgeist. Was there a catalyst that changed fans idealism to pragmatism? I guess it goes back to TikTok and it's influence on the youth, so many "redpills", even young kids talking about heavy subjects.

At this point it's nearly impossible. Government investments are directly tied to major kpop companies more than ever before, especially after BTS's global success. If a can of worms is opened that will result in billions upon billionns of losses. Just look how minority investors reacted to HYBE's being devalued, the government owns 10x that.

Because all this guy wants to do is make the same thread every two weeks. I think the topic titillates teshub

He wont do anything, just whine that the rest of us arent whining with him

  • We literally have had threads about all of those instances and issues, and lots of discussion about them. You say you looked at our threads history on the site but you clearly haven't. If you are going to claim people are turning a blind eye around here, please actually look at the threads we have had regarding all of those groups in just the last month, then hush.
