"I don't want to watch us hurting each other anymore". Seungkwan said something really wise about fan culture and idols recently.

  • For those who don't know Seventeen has been/was in the states recently and although I agree with a lot of fans that some of the interviewers were completely disrespectful and either weren't very open minded or knew a whole ton about kpop, but they weren't the kindest to Seventeen or the most respectful about the idols they mentioned in the interview. Seungkwan's english isn't the best and Vernon did very well handling such a poor question, but this is just my personal opinion bu tI believe that could be a reason for his most recent post on Instagram. I'm currently in the process of deleting my accounts and deleting weverse so I'm no longer the most active there, but someone translated what he said. If you search, 'Seventeens Seungkwan personally speaks up in light of recent situation' it should pop up as well. The source of the text is from his Instagram, while the english translation is from a rough translation from a fan on twitter which you can find here.

  • I can't help but think about what he says, I haven't been in 'this industry' or 'fan culture' as much or as intense as some people are no, but I have watched a lot of groups over the years disband and face terrible management. Not even limited to DV.OL, MARZ, Off the Cuff, NOIR, Omega X, TRCNG, B.A.P, BLACK6IX or even MVP and that's just a few of them.

It seems like everyone wants to create an idol group or become an artist but no company actually has any sense when doing so?, they want to create conflicts with each other instead of focusing on protecting and helping promote their artists in the best and safest way possible.

I think the people in the entertainment industry needs to do a complete 360, I love the concepts, I love the storylines in the music videos, but such a change is needed. And I couldn't agree more.

  • counterpoint - competition amongst fans creates a sense of one uping each other

competition especially between fans means they want to beat each other - either with insults or their wallet

If group A gets 1000 sales group B would want 1100 sales to say huh my group is better than your group

It's never (or hardly ever) the idols that hurt each other but the fans going at each other and that concept isn't unique to kpop - it can be seen in any competitive environment ie. sports

Exactly it's the fans first that need changing. 99% of the time any "competition" between idols is simply a friendly competition just how sports teams compete, after the game ends a good amount of them are friends off the field and shake hands after the game. Same is true for idols it's clown world 🤡 hilarious to see fans bashing a idol when said idol is clearly the best friend of their fave idols group 🤡 example some skz or ateez fans hating on each other groups when the members of both are literally hugging and kissing each other like bruh 😂😂 . This is like trying to put two loving siblings against each other when they do nothing but love each other
